Step back in time over 2,500 years to uncover the mysteries of the ancient Scythians—known in Central Asia as the Sakas. These legendary nomadic warriors roamed the steppes long before the Silk Road, leaving behind a legacy of gold, intricate art, and a sophisticated culture that continues to define the spirit of Kazakhstan. On this 5-hour journey, you will trace the footsteps of these ancient people, focusing on the most iconic figure of the age: the "Golden Man." You will stand before the towering symbol of national pride at the Independence Monument, examine exquisite gold artifacts that survived millennia in the Central State Museum, and finally—visit the actual burial ground of the "Golden Man" at the Burundai mounds. The private tranportation with a driver is not included to the price of the tour and ranges $90 (up to 2 people); $130 (up to 6 people); $180 (upto 11 people) per tour. Payment for tranportation is due on the day of the tour.
Stop 1: The Heart of the Nation – Independence Monument (30 minutes) Our journey begins at Republic Square. Here, we approach the towering 28-meter Monument of Independence, crowned by the iconic "Golden Warrior" on a winged snow leopard. As we examine the bronze bas-reliefs, we'll discuss how this ancient symbol was chosen to represent modern Kazakhstan and what it reveals about the values of the ancient Scythians. Stop 2: Central State Museum of Kazakhstan (1.5 hours) At the country's largest museum we'll focus intently on the archaeological halls, home to the world-famous ancient gold collection. You'll see authentic Saka artifacts: intricate gold plaques, and ceremonial items. We'll pay close attention to a detailed replica of the Golden Man's costume, noting the symbolism of each piece. Stop 3: Boraldai Burial Mounds (1.5 hours) Leaving the city center, we travel to the northwest to visit a place of true archaeological significance:a complex of burial mounds dating back 2,500 years
