Hi, I'm Catia, and I live in the very heart of Emilia Romagna, Italy's most gastronomic region. I've worked as a professional tour guide here since 2014 and as a tour manager across Italy and Europe since 1990. My mission is to give those spending free time in my country their most memorable stay ever, by customizing the visit according to their interests and inclinations in order to maximize their enjoyment and fun. I love answering questions, surprising visitors with unexpected sights and stories, and seeking out connections to things they've already seen and learned. I have a strong visual sense and I believe I can present a certain site to its best attributes. I'm keen on culture and anthropology, and I aim to place the locations we visit and their associated stories in the proper context. I'm versatile and have a wide range of interests: history and mythology, language, art and architecture, cuisine, fashion and music. Art and foreign languages were my favorite subjects when I studied in college to become a Tour Operator. I began my carreer in tourism when I was still young, while pursuing my studies in Social Sciences at the University of Bologna (the oldest university in Europe). I was raised by my grandmother, from whom I learned our local dialect and also the arts of using rolling pin and folding tortellini. I've lived abroad for both study and work, and I still often travel myself. However, I feel I am part of this region, which is so famous for its gastronomy, civic pride and artistic masterpieces. Let me introduce you to it. . . I have been a licensed tour guide since 2014 and a licensed tour manager since 1989 in French and English. Beside working as a tour guide in Emilia Romagna I also accompany groups all over Italy. I thus have a broad knowledge of the country. I hold a degree in Social Sciences and in Foreign Languages, and a Tour Operator's diploma. I can't drive you myself in my tours. However, I'm able to get in touch with a professional driver to get us around in his vehicle.

Overview of your Parma tour

Do you want to explore the Parma plain and discover the place where local Protected Designation of Origin (D. O. P. ) products are created? Visiting a real diary of Parmigiano Reggiano and meet a real producer of culatello? We'll visit Zibello, the area of production of one of Italy's best known and most prized salumi, where even European royals stock up. Over there, we'll taste this amazing charcuterie. We'll drive down the countryside towards the Italian river (Po), creating that typical moist, humid environment needed for culatello to season. This area is also home to beautiful palaces of the Farnese & Borbone duchies of Parma. Among them, the royal palace (reggia) of Colorno stands out. On the way back, we'll stop there to admire the external garden of this little Versailles that's the site of the highly reputed Alma School of Cuisine today.

Your Parma tour itinerary

-Once we meet at an agreed upon location, we will leave the town of Parma to reach a family-run farm in the bassa (countryside) to learn how Parmigiano Reggiano is produced. -After tasting different seasonings of Parmigiano Reggiano, we will continue driving even further north of the Parma countryside, around the village of Zibello. -We will then visit the culatello cellar of a Michelin-star chef. -We'll have time for lunch in Antica Corte Pallavicino, either in the osteria or in the star restaurant, completely your choice. -On the way back to Parma, we will stop for an external visit to one of the many palaces that belonged to the local Renaissance duchies Farnese and Borbone of Parma: Colorno. In this 8 hour tour we will be traveling for around 90 km (56 miles). This itinerary can be customized to best meet your specific preferences.
