Hi, I'm Catia, and I live in the very heart of Emilia Romagna, Italy's most gastronomic region. I've worked as a professional tour guide here since 2014 and as a tour manager across Italy and Europe since 1990. My mission is to give those spending free time in my country their most memorable stay ever, by customizing the visit according to their interests and inclinations in order to maximize their enjoyment and fun. I love answering questions, surprising visitors with unexpected sights and stories, and seeking out connections to things they've already seen and learned. I have a strong visual sense and I believe I can present a certain site to its best attributes. I'm keen on culture and anthropology, and I aim to place the locations we visit and their associated stories in the proper context. I'm versatile and have a wide range of interests: history and mythology, language, art and architecture, cuisine, fashion and music. Art and foreign languages were my favorite subjects when I studied in college to become a Tour Operator. I began my carreer in tourism when I was still young, while pursuing my studies in Social Sciences at the University of Bologna (the oldest university in Europe). I was raised by my grandmother, from whom I learned our local dialect and also the arts of using rolling pin and folding tortellini. I've lived abroad for both study and work, and I still often travel myself. However, I feel I am part of this region, which is so famous for its gastronomy, civic pride and artistic masterpieces. Let me introduce you to it. . . I have been a licensed tour guide since 2014 and a licensed tour manager since 1989 in French and English. Beside working as a tour guide in Emilia Romagna I also accompany groups all over Italy. I thus have a broad knowledge of the country. I hold a degree in Social Sciences and in Foreign Languages, and a Tour Operator's diploma. I can't drive you myself in my tours. However, I'm able to get in touch with a professional driver to get us around in his vehicle.

Parma has been declared a "UNESCO Creative City" for its gastronomy. On its lands, worldwide known Italian products have been produced since ever, such as Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, Parma ham and other charcuterie as well as traditional balsamic vinegar. Parmigiano Reggiano is produced in the many dairies scattered across the Emilia region, Parma ham is seasoned on Parma's southern hills, and traditional balsamic vinegar is made in the surroundings. Thus, the historical city centre of Parma is the best place to discover all these products, and more. Experience the difference in texture and taste of the Reggiano in its different seasonings, savour Parma ham and culatello to appreciate the subtle differences in flavour, sample a generic balsamic vinegar and a traditional one to test their different sweet and tangy touches.
-We'll begin visiting a local grocery store (where Parmisan housewives shop daily for their family lunch) to taste Parmigiano Reggiano (an antipasto). -After this, we'll walk to a different shop to try some local prosciutto and other charcuterie I'll introduce you to. -We'll continue with a 'primo' dish. Parma is famous for its filled pasta such as tortelli alle erbette or anolini/tortellini, so we will try some of this in this third stop. Of course, you'll be learning about local wine while sipping some. -Our last stop will be in a local pastry shop, to have dessert and coffee. You might want to try and drink your coffee standing, such as Italians do! *"Antipasto, primo, dolce and coffee" is a traditional Italian meal structure that you will enjoy during this tour, but instead of sitting through it, we'll stroll from one place to another, sightseeing the architecture and monuments of Parma. *This itinerary could be customized to best meet your preferences considering the opening hours of the botteghe.
