Hi I'm Claudia! I was born in Bolzano - South Tyrol (Italy), but have also lived for over a decade in the United States. I have 15+ years in the travel industry and since 2017 I'm a licensed tour guide with experience that ranges from the US to Europe. Following my experience as a Tour Guide in the States, I moved back to Bolzano and opened my company and since I'm passionate about food & wine it was pretty clear that the focus of my tours would be to offer unique eno-gastronomical experiences in Bolzano and South Tyrol. I am also very passionate about our history and culture and therefore I also offer cultural and historical walks & tours. I love to introduce to travelers my city, my region, its controversial history and culture, all through our unique and diverse food and wine traditions. There's nothing better than food to tell a story about a place! What I like about my customers, is to see that at the end of my tours, wether is a food or a cultural tour, they are happy, intrigued and that they've discovered a deeper interest in the area. All of my tours and services mentioned here can be customized to your needs. I look forward to meeting you and showing this beautiful part of Italy, as I a usually say, a tasting at a time! One of the aspects that many might not know about Bolzano and ultimately South Tyrol, is its strong and controversial WWII history, specifically the time between summer of 1944 and spring of 1945, when the city was occupied by Nazi Germany and its consequences on its inhabitants and its Jewish community. During this tour you'll get to chance to visit the only synagogue and Jewish museum (in Merano) present in the whole region of Trentino Alto-Adige. I'll give you the tools and information to understand how South Tyrol became very important to the point to even have a concentration camp built, from where the first Italy's deportation started. I'll share with you the story of some of its prisoners and their fate. Along the way several stops to memorials tracing the fate of those that perished, will be visited. Finally we'll learn about Bolzano long history of the trading town's prominent Jewish community. As this is a full day, I'll include a stop for lunch on the way.
*We meet in Walther Square or at the lobby of your hotel if located in the historical center and drive to Merano (about 20') * We visit the only Synagogue of the whole region and the Jewish museum and learn about the important role of the Jewish community in the tourism and economy of the Region. *After lunch (not included) we hop on the car and drive to Bolzano to visit the location where the Lager used to stand. *"Die Transporter" memorial. From here thousands of civilians were transferred over the Alps and deported to the German concentration camps. *We'll stop at the Jewish sector of the city cemetery. The oldest graves are dated back to the XVI-XVII century. *We'll continue to the Forced Labor memorial, located where once stood a ball bearing factory and where the Lager's prisoners were forced to work. *Back in Bolzano we will discover how the medieval town's trade history was tightly connected with the Jewish community Customization of this tour possible upon request
