Sparkling Surabaya - 5 Hour Private Excursion Tour

We had an amazing day with Arif, a resident of Surabaya with extensive local knowledge. It was an informative day about every aspect of daily life in this vibrant city. There was no question he did not answer or offer his valuable insights. Arif has a great sense of humor, which made for an enjoyable day. And thank you for the lunch at a local restaurant. It was delicious.

This Sparkling Surabaya tour was interesting, as our guide Arifudin and his driver spoke almost perfect English. Their banter during the short drives between the sites added a lot of local color to the tour. Having a car and driver allowed us to see more of the city than we could possibly have seen on foot. We walked through historic neighborhoods that are surrounded by the city, toured the ancient Chinese temple, and had a delicious lunch at a typical restaurant. We especially enjoyed the local market. If you visit Surabaya you should book a tour with Arif.

This tour was one of the best that we have had — ever. Arif was wonderful — very personable and knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed every part of our day. I can’t imagine even one thing that I would have changed. If you come to Surabaya I definitely recommend Arif.

I wasn't sure what to expect in Surabaya, because the Indonesia guidebook that I purchased prior to our trip had NOTHING to say about it, but Arif had put together an interesting itinerary in the historic center of town. Among other things, we saw the original bank established by the Dutch traders, a park area surrounded by official buildings, the tomb of the unknown soldiers, the Joko Dolog sculpture and some hidden byways and back streets. He also introduced us to some of the history of Indonesia and took us to a market and a local cafe for an authentic lunch experience.

We had a nice tour with Arif and his driver Dali. We visited a small neighborhood of about 100 people who live in an urban area with organic farming outside their home-interesting to see; a large open market place food, fruit and fish; Chinatown with one of the oldest temples; and Heritage building where we learned about the history of Indonesian currency and banking.
