Tajumulco, is the highest summit of Guatemala and Central America's. An inactive volcano with an elevation of 4220 meters (13841. 6 feet). The hike takes an average of 4 hours to the campsite at the base of the summit. This is my favorite place to watch shooting stars. The route from the highlands is not a difficult hike as some people may expect, but precautions are taken to minimize the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness -AMS-, as in other places around the world, it commonly occurs above 2500 meters (8200 feet). Expect mesmerizing sunsets and sunrises from the summit, and on clear days its even possible to watch the Pacific Ocean and the coastline. --- If you have specific transportation requirements, pricing inquiries or if your preferred start time isn't listed, please send me an email by clicking on the 'ASK A QUESTION' button that's listed on my tour page and profile. I will reply to you promptly. Thanks!
Day 01 We travel to San Marcos city (6-7 hours drive), and stay at a local hotel that night. Day 02 After eating breakfast we continue our drive to the village of Tuichán, where we start our hike, which can take from 4 to 6 hours depending on the pace. We set our campsite and then if the weather is good, we go to the summit and enjoy a wonderful sunset. We return to the campsite the sun sets, to cook and eat dinner, relax and sleep (notice that during the rainy season this may not be possible and we might have to stay in our camp). Day 03 We wake up early (around 5 AM) to hike to the summit and enjoy the sunrise at the top of our country and Central America, a nice hike around the crater rim and we go back to our camp to cook and eat breakfast, pack our stuff and hike back to our vehicle (usually we finish by 10 AM). We can eat lunch either at San Marcos or Quetzaltenango city (Xela) and then I take you back to your hotel or wherever you need. * Do not hesitate to contact me for a customized tour
