I have known the region and its vineyard since childhood as my family owns a beautiful wine estate based between Sète and Montpellier. Obviously I love good wines and good food and I enjoy cooking and share good meals with friends. I also like gardening to grow my own fresh herbs and vegetables. With a wine degree I have started to work in wine industry more than 20 years ago, working in wine shops and wine bars. As I like to meet people and share my passion I have then started to work as a wine guide 3 years ago. It is a great way to share my knowledge of wines from the Languedoc and the secret places of our beautiful region. The Languedoc wine region is the largest in France and produces a great variety of wines presenting an amazing value for money. Around Montpellier you can visit the famous and beautiful Pic Saint Loup wine region, or the Thau lagoon where we have oyster production that combines very well with our Picpoul de Pinet crisp white wine or even the quaint medieval village of Saint-Guilhem-le-désert and its fabulous wines. I would be also pleased to show you the city of Montpellier itself, its medieval history and the château winery, so-called "Folie" where the gentry of time had their summer house. I am of course ready to customize tours according to your wishes, for example if you want to discover the local gastrnomy (markets, cheeses, olive oil. . . ) or the local heritage (city of Sète, Pont du gard, roman arena in Nîmes. . . ). In a typically Mediterranean landscape, wander around the lagoon to explore the vineyards of Picpoul de Pinet and Grès de Montpellier and taste the oysters of the Thau lagoon. I'll personally pick for you a special and secret place near the Thau Lagoon, only known by the locals. It's a small oysters farm (a family business) and I'll explain the process involved in oyster farming. . . you'll be surprised to learn :) You won't be able to taste fresher oysters in another place! They come directly from the lagoon to your plate - this is a one of a kind experience! After that, we'll go to a winery and taste a local wine that goes amazingly well with the oysters - the perfect combination!
If you're interested in wine and oysters this is the tour for you. There is a large oyster farming industry I the lagoon at Sete and there is wine to go with it and Marc is able to take you to them and explain it all. He us a winemaker himself in a winemaker family so speaks with great knowledge. Oysters are famous in Sete and you will enjoy a lovely lunch of them right at the lagoon. This is great tour to take if you are staying in Sete or as a shore excusion.
What a fun trip with Nicole (Marc's colleague). Great oysters, great company as Nicole is a wine maker and a good winery to end the tour. Cathy and I couldn't have enjoyed it more!

Marc was awesome! He was flexible and easy going. We enjoyed the oyster farm, food and wine. Marc also took us to his family home and vineyard, because we also own a much smaller vineyard in the US. And we loved tasting his wines and meeting his family. We got to see how his family lived and learned about the wine making co-op that exists for the many vineyards in the area use which is awesome because then you don't have to purchase your own winemaking equipment. Marc was great, we highly recommend!!
I am writing this 6 months after having taken this tour with Marc in Sete. Marc "hit it out of the park". What a wonderful day we spent with him. In every way our needs and expectations were met and often exceeded. I would highly recommend his tour for your day in Sete.
I will pick you up with an air-condionned minibus and drive you to the Thau lagoon (approximately 30 min drive) which is the largest of a string of lagoons that stretch along the French mediterrannean coast. It is well known for its oyster production. I will bring you to an oyster and shellfish farm on the shore of the lagoon and explain all about this little known production. You will then enjoy 6 fresh oysters accompanied by a glass of white wine with a view on the beautiful blue lagoon. Then I will drive you to a magnificent wine estate and its Renaissance-style castle backed by its 11th century chapel and nestled in a lush garden. I will explain about its history and give you explanation on wine making while we visit the vinification cellar and the oak barrel room before tasting their range of white, red and rosé wines. Do not miss the typical white wine of the region, ideal companion of your shellfish: the famous Picpoul de Pinet
