Overview of your Peurasuvanto tour
Did you know that the breathing air in Kuusamo is the cleanest in the world? Kuusamo's rugged fells, wide marshes, clean water lakes and rafts are a dream destination for anyone interested in nature! Bears, wolves, wolverines and several rare bird and plant species thrive right here. In Kuusamo you can meet rarer Sea, Tundra and Short-billed geese. Whooper swans stay on the lake until it freezes, at best in flocks of over a hundred birds. White-tailed eagles and Ospreys fish on the lakes and rivers in the summer. Golden eagles, kestrels, mergansers and Peregrine falcons have also been spotted in the specific lake environments. This wonderful active nature tour covers everything you want to experience about the nature and birds in Kuusamo. We will visit the nature sites which are quite easily accessible by a car, but for bird watching we need to walk and hike in the forest, lake and swamp areas as well. Our timetable is very flexible. Water, sodas, coffee, toasts and lunch included.
Your Peurasuvanto tour itinerary
Pickup as agreed - 20min drive to our first bird watching site by the rapids, where I have just recently discovered white-tailed eagle & white-throated dipper * coffee & toasts by the campfire - 50min drive to a lake & bird watching tower for the Whooper swans & geese near the Russian border - 25min drive to another bird watching tower on the swamp area for the Jack snipe, Broad-billed sandpiper, eagles etc. (Note: I will follow the bird actions and might change our route accordingly. Your special wishes will affect as well.) *Lunch by the camp fire (or if the weather is very cold / rainy, me might have our lunch indoors somewhere nearby) - 30min drive to the Nature Park area for the Siberian jay, Willow tit and other tit species, woodpeckers etc. Drop-off Note: You may add a local Finnish traditional sauna experience by the arctic lake for the later evening!
