Montecristi, known for its fine toquilla straw hats, is a unique opportunity to discover Ecuadorian history and observe the variety of handicrafts available in the town's shops. As you stroll through the main streets, you will have the chance to examine the different textures and learn about the stories behind the skilled artisans who create them. Did you know that it can take up to six months to weave a superfine sombrero? The town's main attraction is its famous "Panama Hats, " but the main plaza also features a beautiful church where pilgrims come to visit the statue of the Virgin Monserrat, believed to have performed miracles. Be sure we will also visit the Liberal Museum on the hilltop, which honors Ecuador's 20th president Eloy Alfaro, the father of the country's liberal revolution.
