Hello, my name is Martina. When I was four, I visited the first castle with my parents and fell in the love with the guiding profession. I studied English and History of Art at university and worked as a seasonal guide at several castles during summer holidays. In 1997 I completed the first of a range of courses for professional guides. I worked as a teacher and a translator but my passion for history and travelling and the desire to share my knowledge with other people drove me to become a freelance certified guide. Thanks to this decision the dream job from my childhood has been my main occupation since 2004. I lead tours of other regions of the Czech Republic too but I know Brno and Southern Moravia best because I was born and have been living here all my life. I would be pleased to welcome you to my native city and show you the highlights and hidden nooks; take you to the busy places and out of the beaten track. It is the second largest city of the Czech Republic but unlike Prague it has retained the typical local atmosphere and its beautiful surroundings have not been discovered by foreign tourists yet. Brno is situated in the warmest part of the country. If you want certain guarantees of sunny weather, it is the best choice. And sun is a prerequisite for quality wines. It is, therefore, no wander that an area full of vineyards and wine cellars stretches from Brno far to the south. The Czech Republic is extremely rich in castles and other historic buildings. You can find 17 UNESCO sites here, out of which one is right in Brno and other seven are within 100 km from the city. I try to treat travelers like my friends so I hope you enjoy your stay and join the group of my former clients who remember their holidays in the Czech Republic as something exceptional. I would be delighted to welcome you to my home-land Brno, Czech Republic. While making a tour with me you will have an opportunity to learn about ancient and recent history and enjoy Moravian hospitality! Guide for Brno and its Surroundings Certificate of Professional Qualification, Tourist Guide Certified Czech Tourist Guide, Czech Tourist Guide Association Guide - Specialist for the South Moravian Region, Wine Tourism Religious Tourism, Czech Tourist Guide Association English Language and Literature, Master of Arts Degree, Masaryk University, Brno Member of the UNESCO Czech Heritage Association I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

The Moravian Karst is a wonderful area encompassing more than 1100 natural caves. Only five of them are open to the public: Punkva, Balcarka, Katerina, Sloup-Sosuvka and Vypustek (which was partly converted into an air-raid shelter during the Cold War). Punkva Cave System is the most frequented because besides the caves it includes the Macocha Abyss, a 138 m deep gorge, and a boat ride on the subterranean Punkva river. It is a "wow" site and the highlight among similar sights in the Czech Republic. To get to the entrance to the cave, you can go by a little electric "train". Besides admiring the Abyss from its bottom, it is advisable to take a cable car to the upper platform and see it from above. After the tour, you can taste the local speciality in the Rocky Mill Restaurant - trout grown in a nearby fish farm. Punkva Cave is open on Mondays from June to September. The CABLE CAR IS NOT OPERATED IN WINTER, Punkva Cave is accessible by the train or walk.
- By car from your hotel in Brno - Macocha Abyss seen from above - Cable car to the entrance to Punkva Cave (the cable lift is not operated in winter, the caves are accessible by the elecric train or walk only) - Tour of the cave including a boat ride - Electric train or a 2-km walk to the central car park - Lunch at a local restaurant by the central car park - Stop in Krtiny with a wonderful baroque pilgrimage church - Return to Brno by car As tickets for Punkva cave are frequently sold out, it is advisible to book this tour well in advance. However, even if you cannot visit Punkva Cave, you can go to Balcarka or some other cave as they are equally beautiful.
