Hello dear travelers, my name is Mario and I have been working as a professional guide for the past 8 years with a license for Istrian Penninsula, Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Lika-Senj and Karlovac region as well as the Zagreb county and the city of Zagreb (basically covering the whole western and central Croatia). Originally I am from Zagreb, the Croatian capital, but I moved to Opatija some time ago with my wife Sara and our one-year-old twin daughters Lea and Ela. I've got my masters as an Engineer of Road Traffic and Transport, however I found that I like working in the field, taking to people and sharing my love and knowledge about my country much more then office work. At first it was just city sightseeing tours of Zagreb, then smaller tours, and ended up guiding larger tours as well, but what I really enjoy the most is taking smaller groups of travelers on excursions or tours around the region, getting to know them and their interest and tailoring the tour to each group or each person. With small groups, we can discover off the beaten paths, go behind the evident, walk through the market and explore food, taste, and smell, discover local crafts and much more which you wouldn't be able to do with a larger group. Also, everyone's interests are different, and having a smaller group gives us the opportunity to focus on the traveler's interest so it becomes more interesting and personal. Overview of your Opatija tour
This tour is great if you want to learn the most important aspects about the city, to see all the essential landmarks, places, squares and learn about its history as well as its present, it's traditions and its' inhabitants while doing the best of both parts of the city - the middle age Upper towns on foot, and the 19th century lower town with the car. Zagreb was my hometown for most of my life until I moved to Opatija, so it's always a heartwarming feeling when I come back to it. This is why I would love to be the one to show you the hidden gems of the city, like the best place to try a local dish named štrukli, or where you can get the best ice cream with over 40 years of tradition, or get a hand crafted umbrella resembling the traditional folklore dresses. . . Why not learn how locals enjoy their free moments and do it their way? Or try shopping in some tiny stores where they still do hand-made products with decades of tradition? Well. . . Your Opatija tour itinerary
- We start with a drive from Opatija/Rijeka, to Zagreb. - Upon arrival to the city we continue with exploring the central part of Zagreb - the Green Lower town, known for many parks and gardens and famous buildings, galleries, monuments and embassies - Next we park the car and continue discovering the smaller and narrower streets of the Upper towns on foot. Among other things we plan to see: - Ilica street - take the funicular to Gradec - St. Mark's square - Lotrscak tower - Stone Gate - Bloody bridge - Tkalciceva and Skalinska street - Dolac market - Cathedral - At the end, you will have some time to explore the city on your own, do some shopping in Ilica, visit museums or galleries or exploring the gastronomy of the city - Return to Opatija in the late afternoon. It is you and your party who decide what you would like to see - I can customize the tour for you, just let me know your wish list I also provide my list of favorite restaurants, must see museums, local shopping and a marked map of the city
