Hello dear travelers, my name is Mario and I have been working as a professional guide for the past 8 years with a license for Istrian Penninsula, Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Lika-Senj and Karlovac region as well as the Zagreb county and the city of Zagreb (basically covering the whole western and central Croatia). Originally I am from Zagreb, the Croatian capital, but I moved to Opatija some time ago with my wife Sara and our one-year-old twin daughters Lea and Ela. I've got my masters as an Engineer of Road Traffic and Transport, however I found that I like working in the field, taking to people and sharing my love and knowledge about my country much more then office work. At first it was just city sightseeing tours of Zagreb, then smaller tours, and ended up guiding larger tours as well, but what I really enjoy the most is taking smaller groups of travelers on excursions or tours around the region, getting to know them and their interest and tailoring the tour to each group or each person. With small groups, we can discover off the beaten paths, go behind the evident, walk through the market and explore food, taste, and smell, discover local crafts and much more which you wouldn't be able to do with a larger group. Also, everyone's interests are different, and having a smaller group gives us the opportunity to focus on the traveler's interest so it becomes more interesting and personal. Tourist guide license course (Croatian official license for professional guides) - Vern - University of Applied Sciences in Zagreb, Croatia, 2015 - Zagreb city and Zagreb region (English and Croatian) - Aspira, Zagreb, Croatia 2018 - Primorsko-Goranska, Istarska, Karlovačka and Ličko-Senjska county (English and Croatian) I am licensed for the following regions: Istrian peninsula, Kvarner bay (Primorsko-Goranska county), Lika-Senj region, Zagreb city and Zagreb area and Karlovac region. For other countries and regions I can guide while on the road.

From ugly duckling to a beautiful swan - discover how Opatija transformed itself quickly from a humble fisherman's village to a "place to be" for the Austrian aristocracy. In this tour we will walk on the seaside promenade pass the old mansions, through the flower gardens where it all began, and discover it's past and present that makes Opatija one of the most beautiful towns in Croatia. Being my hometown I want to show you Opatija though the eyes of a local. In addition to the "typical stories" allow me to tell you story of mine - how did I propose to my today's wife - on one of the idyllic benches of Park Angiolina. Find out how people of Opatija enjoy their coffee and how you can spend your time in Opatija like a real local! Looking forward to sharing it!
We start the tour in the downtown of Opatija, in the center called Slatina. On our tour, which is planned as a walking tour and a loop around the town and back to the starting point, we plan to see and discover: - the Croatian Walk of Fame - Slatina beach with statue of M. Krleža - 15th century abbey of St. Jacob's - statue and story behind the Lady with the Seagull - Juraj Sporer Gallery - Hotel Kvarner - the first hotel on the Adriatic coast - Villa Amalia - Villa Angiolina - the first villa and the cradle of Croatian tourism and the story of Iginio Scarpa - Park Angiolina - Statue of Friedrich Julius Schuller - without whom Opatija would develop the way it did - Market place and Opatija's upper town - walk down the main street back to Slatina On our tour we discover many more stories behind the villas, buildings, places as well as local tradition and beliefs. It is you and your party who decide what you would like to see - I can customize the tour for you, just let me know your wish list

This is a walking tour, so no vehicles or other kinds of transportation will be used
Airport: ,Cruise: ,ByGuide: Slatina beach, Opatija (in downtown where the bus station is) is the best meeting point and starting point for this tour, however I can meet the travelers in another hotel or point in Opatija as long as it is around the center (along the M.Tita street)
