Hello! I am Hernán, a costarican nature lover, passionate about music, photography, birds and friends. I have done many different jobs always related with tourism, as a certified water lifeguard, as a guide in an adventure park, an entertainer in water parks and hotels, a DJ at private parties and restaurants, Head of Entertainment, tropical dance instructor, children's entertainer and many more. I was working with the largest tourism company in the country and I found a way to study and work, so I got my bilingual general tour guide license in 2018 and became part of my area's certified guides. I started working as a freelance guide in 2021. The desire to show my country prompted me to give my best and create customized tours for my friends and clients in general. I love visiting the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park and observe its volcanic activity, the transition forest, the flora and fauna of the forest, visit Tenorio Volcano National Park and enjoy the spectacular blue waterfall that falls 30 meters where the Maleku natives perform sacred rituals in the past; walking among the clouds on the suspension bridges and observe the majestic Arenal Volcano. I live in the city of Liberia, province of Guanacaste, where you can enjoy delicious meals, enjoy typical and cultural activities, and walk through the city discovering its history, as told by its streets. This is just 15 minutes from the Daniel Oduber International Airport or also called the Guanacaste Airport, and just 30 minutes from the Papagayo Touristic Pole where the largest and most prestigious hotels in the country are located. Let's visit the rainforest that's by the little town of Bijagua de Upala, which is located at the north between the province of Guanacaste and Alajuela. We gonna make a stop to enjoy the beautiful Llanos del Cortez Waterfall and swimming or take pictures. Afterwards we drive to Bijagua, We're going to walk in a private property, preserved for the wildlife that both cross by and stay in this little island surrounded by two rivers, with a rich, inviting ecosystem. We'll come across sloths, monkeys, frogs, birds and more amazing species. We'll go on an easy hike for one or two hours (your choice) . Once we open up an appetite we'll be able to drive fifteen min to a recomended restaurant with an amazing view of Miravalles and Tenorio Volcanos. We'll wrap up our experience in a rescue centre where we'll see different big felines such as jaguars, pumas and ocelots among others animals that have found a new place to survive, which you will be helping with your collaboration.
This tour was beyond our expectations. Hernan is professional, knowledgeable and passionate about Costa Rica and its beautiful nature. We had great conversations along the way and his enthusiasm is contagious. Hernan is very organized, he was prepared with water bottles and delicious local fruit. He took us to a restaurant with amazing food and a breathtaking view of the volcano. Thank you Hernan for a wonderful day and a memory that will stay with our family forever. Pura Vida!
HernáN was an absolutely incredible tour guide (and a completely wonderful person as well!) He has everything timed perfectly, even knows what time to see the rainbow! I recommend doing exactly the way he suggests.
We had a fabulous private tour with Hernan! So well organized, never rushed and we had an incredible day seeing more than we expected. Swim time at the waterfall was perfect and for sanctuary tour it was amazing what wildlife Hernan found for us tha we would have missed on our own. He brings along his own tripod/zoom lens and takes pictures along the way which he sends to you after the tour. Had incredible stop for fantastic lunch and spent as much time time as we wanted at the animal rescue centre. Sloths, toucans, monkeys and more were seen throughout the day! What a marvelous tour we had with Hernán! He was welcoming, drove a great vehicle, shared fascinating information on local ecology and Costa Rican stories. He provided water and delicious fresh-cut watermelon, a thoughtful touch. We savored stunning vistas of volcanoes and lush landscapes. It was perfect weather, and we viewed some 16 species in the rainforest sanctuary: sloths, snakes, toucans, a range of tropical birds, and my favorite, beautiful arachnids. He checked to be certain we were comfortable, with plentiful rest stops. His hearty humor was contagious; we laughed driving through the fascinating landscapes. Our spacious restaurant with valley/mountain views offered fresh authentic dishes. We appreciated his reliable communication and passion, and look forward to another tour together in the near future!
Hernan is a wonderful guide: extremely knowledgeable about both flora and fauna, knows the terrain for short cuts, picked an excellent restaurant with a great view of tenorio, and fluent in two languages. Our daughter is fluent in Spanish and enjoyed talking with hernan in Spanish. And he has a great sense of humor. Saw two sloth types, 3 toucan types in the wild and the rescue center tour was a hit with the younger kids. A true 5* experience.
We had the most incredible tour with Hernán today! He was punctual, kind, and so patient with the kids, really going out of his way to make the experience special for them. He tailored the tour perfectly to our family, and what amazed us most was his unbelievable ability to spot wildlife in the middle of the jungle. Thanks to him we saw so many animals up close: a sloth on the ground (so rare and lucky!), howler monkeys, frogs, multiple snakes, and so much more. Lunch was another highlight, absolutely delicious, with the most breathtaking view. Honestly, the food was better than what we had at the Four Seasons! We couldn’t recommend Hernán more highly, he truly made our day unforgettable!
- I will pick you up in the morning from your hotel, residence or any place you request. - After pick-up, I'll drive you to the Llanos del Cortez Waterfall 1. 5 hours. - Upon arrival to the waterfall, we'll begin the visit before getting ready for short hiking and swimming. -Afterwards we drive forty minutes to the Animal Sanctuary. - We'll then go on a hike for an hour or two to enjoy your surroundings and take pictures. - Later, we'll go on a fifteen min drive to the local restaurant to enjoy a Costarican cusine. - After lunch, we'll drive for half an hour towards the Rescue Center. - Upon arrival, we'll visit the animals for around an hour. - We'll then go back to your lodging, and on the way there, if you wish, we'll be able to stop at a venue to get snacks, beverages and/or souvenirs before getting to your lodging. - In the end you'll be dropped off, finishing our day together.
