Overview of your Xiamen tour
As one of the five cities opened to Westerners after the Opium War under Treaty of Nanking, Xiamen (Amoy) witnessed the flow of Western people and culture into the city , and Gulangyu island is the place chosen for the settlement. There used to be 13 consulates built on the island, and many churches, school, hospital were also set up there, making the island a melting pot for different cultures to meet each other and turning the island into an international settlement. We will walk along the quite alley and small hills to visit the former Hope hospital built by John Otte, the former HSBC site, Rock Calligraphy, the Garden, Piano Museum to witness this special piece of history after the opium war.
Your Xiamen tour itinerary
(for reference, the itinerary can be adjusted upon request. ) 08. 30 leave the hotel for ferry terminal 09:30 take the ferry and leave for gualngyu island. 10. 00-12:30 arrive on the island and walk around the island to visit the site the formal western hospital, the mixed court, the former HSBC site 12. 30-13. 30 lunch, to try some local cuisine and sea foods 14. 00-15. 00 visit piano museum and shuzhuang garden 15. 00-16. 00 walk around the alley to experience the so called World Museum of Architecture. 16. 00-16. 30 take the ferry back to Xaimen island and back to hotel.
