I am a Carioca (born and raised in Rio), who lived in Hamburg, Paris, London , and Manaus and since 1986 have been back to my home city. Overview of your Rio De Janeiro tour
Petropolis, A. K. A. , the Imperial City, holds a mixture of history and nature in a unique way. Its close proximity to Rio de Janeiro turned Petropolis into the main destination for the royal court during summer days, in 1822. Petropolis then became the main city of Rio's mountain region in the 19th century. One hour drive through the Serra dos Orgãos National Park we will visit the Imperial Museum built by Peter II and have lunch at a beautiful inn before returning to Rio. I personally enjoy delivering this tour because Petropolis is considered to be the only Imperial City of the Americas. The hour away car ride offers astonishing natural scenery of the Serra dos Orgãos National Park plus the chance to try the reputed "cuisine du terroir". You cannot miss it!

- One hour travel by the Serra dos Orgãos National Park. - Visit to the Quitandinha Palace, built in 1944 by Joaquim Rolla to be the largest hotel casino in Latin America. Its architectural style is the Hollywood rococo (internally) and Norman-French (externally) - the latter very present in architecture due to Petropolis German colonization. Neogothic Cathedral of Saint Peter de Alcantara where rests the mortals of Brazilian imperial family. - Visit to the Imperial Museum in Petropolis, summer residence of the Imperial family. - Lunch at the Alcobaça Inn one of the most charming places in the mountains of Rio region. A house built in 1914, surrounded by rose gardens, bromeliads, orchids and fragrant herbs. Itinerary can be customized upon request.
