Hi! I am Andrea! I was born in Barcelona but I have been living in different countries for the past years ( The United States, Brazil and the Netherlands). Antwerp is the second biggest city in Belgium and Antwerp has it all! It is not only the city of the famous painter Rubens, it is also the global capital of diamond trade. The city is also home to the most beautiful railway station in the world. Our guided walk through the old city starts at the historical Market Square and Our Lady's Cathedral, the most impressive church in the Low Countries. It welcomes you with countless paintings by world class artists of the 17th century. The absolute masterpieces are the Rubens paintings. Antwerp has now become one of the largest harbor cities in the world. Antwerp railway station is a must-see. It is said to be the most beautiful railway station in the world. Nearby are the diamond district and the Jewish quarter. The city offers a delicious local beer called a 'Bolleke', a must try also!
Our walk through the city center of Antwerp will take us through its picturesque streets where we will discover wealth of breathtaking architecture. The tour will start at the big Market Square and the gothic guild houses surrounding the square. Later, we will walk towards the ancient fortress of the city, the Het Steen castle. Afterwards, we will walk towards the impressive cathedral of Antwerp and we will be able to stare at the most important paintings of Pablo Rubens during the 17th Century. Once we have seen the cathedral we will go to the Saint Charles Borromeo Church, an impressive Baroque Church of the 17th Century. Once we have seen this we will walk towards the Diamond district and we will discover how the diamond industry is developed in the city. The tour will finish walking through the majestic rail station of Antwerp considered the most wonderful railway station of the world.
