Did you know Palestine is situated at the second most important migratory flyway in the world? About 500 million birds migrate every year moving from their breeding grounds in Eurasia to their wintering grounds in Africa during the autumn-migration season and back again in the spring-migration season. The most noticeable migratory bird species in Palestine are the soaring birds that are characterized by large and broad wings (among them Vultures, Eagles, Buzzards, Storks, and Pelicans). The 370 bird species known to occur in Palestine can be divided into two main categories; species that breeds in Palestine which includes resident breeders, summer visitor breeders, and complex breeders-bird species with different seasonal behavior. The second group comprises non-breeding species that include migratory species, winter visitors, and vagrants (accidental visitors).
