Historic Rochester Half-Day Tour

Rochester has an exceptionally rich and long history, which can be easily explored in a half day tour. The magnificent Cathedral was founded in 604 AD, the second oldest in England. It is adjacent to Rochester Castle, an impressive 11th century Norman fortress, with stunning views from the top of one of the tallest keeps over the River Medway which it was built to defend. The Castle has been the scene of destruction and reconstruction over many centuries. The Guildhall Museum, a magnificent 17th-century building contains several local history displays, including Charles Dickens' life, as well as a full-size reconstruction of an 18th-century Medway prison ship.
