I first came to Orkney for a holiday in November 2012 and fell in Love with the place, so much so that we moved here August 2013. I have always been an outdoors person enjoying walking canoeing and trips on our narrow-boat. My working life has always involved people, firstly as a nurse for people with learning difficulties, followed by a Youth worker. Afterward, I became a self-employed social photographer, doing weddings, schools, and portraits. Moving to Orkney has reignited my love for rope work and knot tying and I spend quite a lot of time collecting washed-up fishing rope which I then turn into door mats. I'm generally an enthusiastic person, still keen to learn, and eager to show others the things on offer here, my delight is when I tell someone something that they didn't know they wanted to know! I like to think I take a relaxed and informal approach to guiding, with the flexibility to change and adapt tours to get the most out of your Orkney experience. I am a Green Badge Tourist Guide for Orkney, issued by The Scottish Tour Guides Assoc. Licienced Taxi Driver Orkney issued by Orkney Island Council None

I will take you to what many would consider the 'must see' of Orkney, this tour travels through 5, 000 years of history and gives you taste of some of the best Orkney has to offer, we will visit the Italian Chapel, Churchill Barriers and Scapa Flow, The Standing Stones of Stenness, a drive past the Ring of Brodgar, plus a quick tour of Skara Brae. I will explain how Scapa Flow, (a natural harbour) UB47 (a submarine) Churchill barriers (a roadway) and the Italian Chapel (built by Italian POW's) are linked in one story, a story that changed the Geography, the Geology, the Economy and Orkney itself forever. We will go to one of my favourite places in Orkney, the Heart of Neolithic Orkney a UNESCO World Heritage site, l will explain what archaeologists think life was like 5, 000 years ago, explore the home of a Neolithic family at Skara Brae, walk, touch and wonder why the stone circles were built.
The itinerary for this tour is flexible and can change depending on the most suitable start point and local events on the day. Assuming start from Kirkwall. - Pick up at an agreed point - Drive south towards Churchill Barriers and Italian Chapel, this road often overlooks Scapa Flow - Visit Italian Chapel (£3. 50 entrance fee) - Drive over 3 of the 4 Barriers looking at the Blockships - Return North to Kirkwall and head West along the north coast of Scapa Flow - Enter the Heart of Neolithic Orkney visit Standing Stones of Stenness - Drive past the Ring of Brodgar on route to Skara Brae Visit the Neolithic village of Skara Brae and Skaill house - Drive to drop off point For customizing this tour, please inquire for a quote.
