I first came to Orkney for a holiday in November 2012 and fell in Love with the place, so much so that we moved here August 2013. I have always been an outdoors person enjoying walking canoeing and trips on our narrow-boat. My working life has always involved people, firstly as a nurse for people with learning difficulties, followed by a Youth worker. Afterward, I became a self-employed social photographer, doing weddings, schools, and portraits. Moving to Orkney has reignited my love for rope work and knot tying and I spend quite a lot of time collecting washed-up fishing rope which I then turn into door mats. I'm generally an enthusiastic person, still keen to learn, and eager to show others the things on offer here, my delight is when I tell someone something that they didn't know they wanted to know! I like to think I take a relaxed and informal approach to guiding, with the flexibility to change and adapt tours to get the most out of your Orkney experience. I am a Green Badge Tourist Guide for Orkney, issued by The Scottish Tour Guides Assoc. Licienced Taxi Driver Orkney issued by Orkney Island Council None

This tour gives the opportunity to walk on some of the more remote beaches of Orkney, getting away from the popular spots where few people go and Beachcombing as we go, who knows what we will find, a Groatie Buckie (locals call a Lucky shell) or a message in a bottle or some old fishing rope. It's a good chance to slow down and enjoy the coast at its best, walking speed. Later in our studio we rouse the creative side and put together something from our finds, creating a unique keepsake and reminder of Orkney. My shoreline treasure is old fishing rope (ghost fishing gear) turning it into something new such as a doormat or a simple rope ring (Quoit) or even a Dream catcher. Each tour will be different, it will be customized not only by the tide times but recent weather will send us to a beach that may have some new gems, your own interest and likes will also help to fine tune what and where we go.
Meet at a pre-arranged time and place ie Hotel or Quay where your ship has docked. - Drive to a suitable location taking into consideration local tide and weather conditions - After a couple of hours stop for a bite to eat - Then drive to the workshop to make something from our finds Having created something unique you will be returned to your ship or hotel or somewhere that suits you better.
