Hello, and welcome! My name is Don, and I’m lucky to call Canterbury home. I love its rich history and traditions, and I can't wait to share them with you. As an avid walker, I enjoy exploring fascinating places on foot, and I also appreciate a good glass of real ale or craft beer—both of which often make my tours even more enjoyable! Professionally, I’m a scientist who has presented my work internationally and worked with students to inspire the next generation of STEM professionals. My experience in public speaking—through conferences and my time with Toastmasters International—has shaped my storytelling skills, allowing me to bring history to life in an engaging and memorable way. Before guiding, I worked as an analytical chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, doing what I like to call “Industrial CSI.” Though I’ve transitioned into leading tours, I continue my passion for STEM outreach. When I’m not sharing Canterbury’s stories, you’ll find me outdoors. I’ve completed the Three Peaks Challenges (both National and Yorkshire) and hiked the entire coastline of the Isle of Wight—so whether you’re up for a relaxed stroll or a more adventurous walk, I’ve got you covered. Join me on a walking adventure—expect the unexpected, enjoy great stories, and maybe even raise a glass of fine ale along the way!

Whitstable is a small seaside town renowned for its oysters and popular among both day tourists and those wanting to move out of big cities. However, Whitstable's history is rich with innovation, industry, and independence. Visitors can take a stroll to learn about Whitstable’s residents and their trades, including oyster fishing, shipbuilding, and diving. The tour also covers the town's railway history, World War events, and smuggling stories, providing both educational and engaging experiences. Additionally, this tour emphasizes Kent’s brewing heritage, offering numerous opportunities to sample various styles of carefully curated local real ales and craft beers. This unique experience, referred to as a TrAle, combines a walking tour with beer tastings and a light lunch. For those who do not consume beer, there are ample alternative refreshments available. The TrAle price is fully inclusive. Be prepared to expect the unexpected.
