Pinnawala Shore Excursion from Colombo
Overview of your Colombo tour
The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a sanctuary for orphaned baby elephants that were found in the wild. It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lankan Department of Wildlife Conservation and has moved locations several times, originally located at the Wilpattu National Park, then shifted to the tourist complex at Bentota and to its current location at the Dehiwala Zoo. The orphanage is situated on the banks of the Maha Oya river, which provides a natural habitat for the elephants and allows them to bathe and play in the water.
