Welcome to Portugal! I am an australian-born Portuguese living in Lisbon since I was 8 years old. Overview of your Lisbon tour
Starting the tour at the Tower of Belém, a wonderful defensive structure dating back to 1515! We shall understand both it's historic and artistic importance, as an unique example of the Manuline style - a national architectural style you will only find in Portugal. Walk to the Monument of the Discoveries, shaped like a ship sailing the seas. This monument summarizes some of the great journeys of Portuguese sailors. There is also a world map with all the different places the Portuguese people arrived in the 15/16th century, explaining the goals, difficulties and glories of these voyages. Next the fabulous Monestary of St Jerome awaits us, this building in the gem of the "Manuline" style. I did an intership here so it is one of my favourites! We visit the Church and Cloister. Lines might be long depending on the season and events taking place. Finish on a high note we will taste the famous Pasteis de Belém! The original and most delicious Portuguese custard tarts!
