Hello! My name is Sara, born and raised in Coimbra, a historic city in the Center Region of Portugal. Sharing the rich history, hidden gems, and vibrant culture of my country with travelers from all over the world is my absolute passion. During this full-day guided tour of Tomar we will walk in the city center, getting to know it's narrow streets that made part of the Jewish Quarter and where the Synagogue is nowadays, the lovely city park, the main church, and on the top of the hill we will find the Templar Castle and the World Heritage classified monument: the Convent of Christ. We will also have the opportunity to visit the Aqueduct of Pegões with its incredible 6km! This guided tour will also allow you to learn the importance of this city in Medieval Ages and a lot about the Knights Templar History in Portugal! All my tours are slow paced and I always give at least 1h break between the morning and afternoon itinerary: you can use that time to taste our local gastronomy, as I always give suggestions of good restaurants and pastry shops. If you're not much into food, just walk around getting to know the shops w/ traditional arts & crafts, go for pictures. . . I will adapt the tour to your interests and needs even during lunch break!
We spent a wonderful day in Tomar with Sara. So much history and interesting sites. Sara brought them to life. We enjoyed the Templar castles and other heritage sites. As well, Sara showed us the historical Jewish quarter. We highly recommend Sara and this tour.
We had considered renting a car to visit castles and other sites that were difficult to get to otherwise, but instead decided to invest in a private tour. It turned out to be a great decision. Our guide Sara was so knowledgeable and interesting that we learned much more than we would have had we traveled on our own. She took us to three very different examples of Knights Templar castles, providing a fascinating glimpse into Portugal's history, and we thoroughly enjoyed our day with her.
What a great tour - led by a person who really knew her history of the places and people involved. Another major plus was Sara knew all the best places to view the sites (and some special statues) and even got us in to see the changing of the guard at the tomb of the Portuguese Unknown Soldier. Sara would be our go-to person if we get the chance to return to central Portugal. It was a SPECIAL experience.
Sara did a perfect job. Extremely knowledgeable, fluent in English, and very organized. She timed our tour well and gave us advice about a later place to go watch the sunset. We absolutely enjoyed walking around Tomar with her.
Sara was such a joy to be with. Our group of four hired her for 3 days. I just hoped that she would be as good as I expected her to be. Well, she far exceeded our expectations. Her knowledge and passion for Portugal surpassed all other experiences. She was personable and a joy to be with.
-We will start the day walking through the Jewish Quarter and visit it's Synagogue. The City Park is absolutely lovely and you surely don't want to miss it so I am definitely taking you there! -On the way we will see the Statue of Gualdim Pais and learn about his impact in the foundation of Portugal as a country in 1139! We will also see the City Church. - On the top of the Hill we will find the Templar Castle and Convent of Christ (World Heritage Site) - This is something everyone should visit when coming to Portugal, so please don't hesitate on contacting me to book this incredible day in Tomar!
