Welcome! I’m Claudia, a cultural guide, storyteller, and art historian. Talking about myself? Still not my favorite thing. But as a radio journalist, I’ve spent years telling other people’s stories, and I know how to tell a good one. And the Netherlands? It has so many worth telling. Why the Netherlands? As a foreign correspondent, I set out to explore this country from the inside out. Its art, history, politics, and everyday life were very important for me. My ultimate goal was to get closer to its soul. I’ve called Amsterdam home for more than 22 years. It’s where I fell in love (again) with art and history. It’s where I went back to school, earned two degrees, and specialized in the Dutch Masters. Today, I combine storytelling with scholarship to give you more than a tour: I offer context, insight, and connection. Beyond Amsterdam Of course, Amsterdam is magical. But the Netherlands has so much more to offer. I’d love to take you on a journey to places like: • Leiden, Delft, or Alkmaar: full of charm and wonderful stories. • The Hague: the city of peace and justice, and administrative capital. • Rotterdam: modern, bold, and creative • Flower fields and countryside towns, especially stunning during tulip season Let’s Plan Your Dutch Adventure Whether it’s your first trip or your fifth, I’d love to show you the Netherlands through my eyes. Art, history, stories, and yes, a stroopwafel or two are waiting for you. I won’t claim to be the best—you’ll be the judge of that - but I DO promise this: I’ll do my best to make your trip to the Netherlands unforgettable. You’ll get a tour and a treat. Hope to welcome you soon! If you're looking to escape the city and soak up some of that postcard-perfect Dutch charm, a day trip to the villages just outside Amsterdam is the way to go. It’s a relaxed journey filled with romantic wooden houses, quiet canals, iconic windmills, and cozy little harbours. Whether you’re into history, photography, or just in it for the cheese and wooden shoes, there’s something here for everyone. It’s the perfect chance to slow down and see a more traditional side of the Netherlands. In most guidebooks, you’ll find these spots labelled as “fishing villages” or “typical Dutch towns.” But what does “typical Dutch” even mean when it comes to a place like Volendam? What’s life like nowadays on the former island of Marken? And why is Zaanse Schans such a magnet for travellers from all over the world? That’s exactly what we’ll explore together on this one-day adventure.
Here's what we'll do during this one-day trip: • Meet in front of the I Amsterdam store in the north hall of Amsterdam Central Station • Travel by car to Zaanse Schans • Walking tour exploring the iconic windmills and traditional houses • Drive to the former island of Marken for a walking tour of the village • Lunch break in Marken • Travel by car to Monnickendam, followed by a walking tour • Visit a nearby cheese farm and learn about cheese-making • Drive to Volendam for a walking tour around the village • Return by car to Amsterdam Central Station The tour can be tailored to your preferences. If you’d like to adjust the itinerary feel free to contact me using the “Message Guide” button. Together, we’ll create the perfect experience for your trip.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
We’ll be traveling in my little white Toyota Yaris, a 2014 hybrid hatchback with air conditioning.
