Meknes was chosen as a UNESCO's world legacy of civilization, for it's historical patrimony. The city became the capital under the rule of Sultan Moulay Ismail (1672-1727), who was the founder of the Alawite Empire. The city has an unforgettable and easy-going medieval ambience. In addition, Meknes has several palaces, spectacular Mosques and Madrassas behind the fortified walls that feature many giant entrances, and the world-famous Bab Mansour. My tours focus mainly on the cultural, historical, and social component relevant not only to the city of Meknes but to Morocco as well. I set my tours to be way informative, interactive and spontaneous rather than scripted. Conducting tours and sharing my knowledge about the cultural and touristic potentials of my hometown is a passion before being a job. It's a learning experience for the guide and the tourist. Your Meknes tour itinerary
- Meet on El Hedim square, in front of the Bab Al Mansour gate at 11:30 am, then set off for a gourmet exploration in the heart of the city's local market. Taste a variety of top-quality olives, nuts and other snacks along the way. Discover the secrets of Moroccan cuisine such as special spice blends for each type of traditional dish. - At lunch time, it will be time for us to head to a traditional restaurant for a full meal with a variety of Moroccan salads, the typical Meknes tajine with chicken and olives with a dessert of seasonal fruits, and what better than exploring Moroccan cuisine (vegetable tagine for vegetarians). - And as they say, the best for last: A Moroccan coffee / tea break to taste a variety of sweet cookies on a terrace in front of the folkloric place EL Hedim to end our tour.
