Explore Essaouira your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Essaouira tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Essaouira for every interest, including:

History tours: Walk the Skala de la Ville ramparts and cannon lines, step into Bayt Dakira to explore Jewish heritage, and visit the Sidi Mohamed ben Abdallah Museum for coastal trade stories. Your guide can also time a port visit to see boats unload before the afternoon fish grills fire up.

Layover tours: Get picked up at the airport or bus station, stroll straight to the harbour for quick photos and a plate of grilled sardines, then weave through thuya‑wood workshops and spice stalls before a punctual drop‑off. These short tours keep queues and detours to a minimum so you make the most of a few hours.

Off The Beaten Path tours: Birdwatch at the Oued Ksob estuary, walk the dunes to Diabat’s crumbling Borj El Baroud, or visit a women’s argan oil co‑operative in Ida Ougourd for a hands‑on demo. If you kite or surf, your guide can add a stop at Sidi Kaouki for wind and waves.

The medina is flat and easy to walk, with short rides by petit taxi to the beach or Diabat; there’s no metro or tram. For countryside beaches, co‑operatives, or winery visits outside town, book a chauffeured tour or ask for a tour with private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Essaouira inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Essaouira

Base yourself in Essaouira, then slip out to nearby beaches, craft towns, and a big-city surge of colour that all work as easy day trips with your tour shaping the day around your interests.

Sidi Kaouki You get a wide, breezy beach, steady surf, and simple seaside cafés, so it suits you if waves, kites, and long walks are your thing, and your tour can include beach time plus a stop in small argan villages on the way.

Safi A ceramic hub with a working pottery quarter and a compact medina, this city is great if you like hands-on craft, street markets, and fishing-port flavours, and the hilltop views give photographers and food lovers plenty to work with.

Diabat and Bordj El Berod Just south of town, this quiet stretch of dunes, river mouth, and a crumbled sea fort is close enough for a laid-back half day, so you can add it to your day trip for easy nature time, beach photos, and a look at local gnawa culture.

Marrakech A long but doable day gets you into souks, spice lanes, tiled courtyards, and big-city energy, and if you’re into design, food, or street photography, your tour can focus on the areas that match your pace without getting lost in the maze.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Essaouira most travellers miss.
