Overview of your Chefchaouen tour

In recent years, Chefchaouen has become a very popular destination for tourists looking for authenticity and serenity. Chefchaouen is a picturesque medieval town located 120 km from Tangier in the Rif Mountains. Its blue-washed buildings and architectural style make it a unique medina in Morocco. It was the Sephardic Jews who introduced the tradition of painting their houses in light blue, a color thought to be a protection from the evil. Chefchaouen was founded in 1472 as a fortress town to fight off the the invading Portuguese who were enterinng Morocco from the north. It served as the main refuge for the Moriscos and Jews escaping from the Spanish Inquisition. In 1920, the Spanish troops entered the city, becoming part of the Spanish Morocco until our independence in 1956. The city is famous for its handicrafts, specifically woven blankets and woolen garments, as well as traditional goat cheese!
