Hi! I am Gaby Yaz and I come from "the land of chocolate" in Chiapas, located in the farthest corner of Mexico. I am a Historian and a Tour Guide. I worked as a teacher for a few years at different levels both in rural and urban settings. I love academia but I also love the outdoors, and I realized that becoming a Tour Guide I could combine traveling and sharing my knowledge about History and Archaeology, as well as connect to nature and with people from all over the world. Chiapas has a remarkably interesting history linked to its location and natural resources. I will be glad to show this land, which I love, so you can have a better understanding and enjoyment of local culture and traditions. I will also be glad to take you to authentic destinations where you can appreciate all the beauty that this land has to offer: amazing natural wonders, parks, protected areas and natural reserves, colonial cities and buildings, local museums and cuisine. When possible, I will take you to little-known indigenous communities, local cooperatives, gastronomic and artisan workshops to contribute to local economy and tourist culture and promote a tourism that benefits all. Of course, these tourist destinations, will be adapted to today's needs and in tune with the necessary security measures for both you and host communities. For me, Chiapas is one of those places that stimulates our senses naturally. It has the scent of raindrops on dry earth, of pine needles getting dry on the ground, of copal incense and candles. Everywhere you look you will find something that catches your eye: a colourful building, a beautiful piece of traditional fabric, a curious handicraft, or a multi-coloured dish. This is the place where the breath of wind that exhales from caves, the waterfalls' endless energy, and the strong wingbeat of hummingbirds and thousands of other tropical birds will make you feel alive. It would be my genuine pleasure help you having unique experiences and get the best out of your stay in Mexico. - BA degree in History. El Ocote Jungle Biosphere Reserve is a protected tropical forest relevant for its biological diversity. It embraces a varied system of karst caves near which some Ecotourism Centers have been established. We will visit two of them: The Sinkhole of Parrots is a chasm 140 meters deep and 160 in diameter known for house thousands of Mexican Green Parakeets (Psittacara holochlorus) an endemic and endangered species, and also for its signs of early human presence; there are many cave paintings that evidence hunter/gatherers habitation in the area 7, 500 years ago. The performance of the parrots fluttering around a prehistoric pictorial stage setting will surprise you. El Aguacero (The Downpour) Waterfall is a set of waterfalls that spill over one side of La Venta River Canyon, through lush green vegetation tumbling down mossy terraces and flowing into the river running below. Here you can enjoy a natural shower immerse in nature and admire an amazing view framed by high rocky cliffs.
- Pick up at meeting point in Tuxtla - Transfer to the Sinkhole of Parrots to walk along the cliff's edge (3h). From the wooded path around you will appreciate the abyss from different angles as well as the flocks of parakeets shrieking and flying in and out of it in circular patterns. - We will stop at the restaurant's viewpoint from where we can admire the ancient rock paintings. Their location so high up the northern wall makes them quite interesting. - Transfer to "El Aguacero" Waterfall for hiking and local flora and wildlife watching (4h). We will visit two viewpoints to admire the lush nature around. To get to the waterfalls we must descend by a long series of more than 700 steps. Once in the bottom we must walk 200 meters more, either by a rocky track along of the riverbank or in the shallow river. The way back is challenging and exhausting, but it is 100% worth it. - Transfer to a restaurant (optional). - Drop off This tour can be customized upon request
