Hi! I am Gaby Yaz and I come from "the land of chocolate" in Chiapas, located in the farthest corner of Mexico. I am a Historian and a Tour Guide. I worked as a teacher for a few years at different levels both in rural and urban settings. I love academia but I also love the outdoors, and I realized that becoming a Tour Guide I could combine traveling and sharing my knowledge about History and Archaeology, as well as connect to nature and with people from all over the world. Chiapas has a remarkably interesting history linked to its location and natural resources. I will be glad to show this land, which I love, so you can have a better understanding and enjoyment of local culture and traditions. I will also be glad to take you to authentic destinations where you can appreciate all the beauty that this land has to offer: amazing natural wonders, parks, protected areas and natural reserves, colonial cities and buildings, local museums and cuisine. When possible, I will take you to little-known indigenous communities, local cooperatives, gastronomic and artisan workshops to contribute to local economy and tourist culture and promote a tourism that benefits all. Of course, these tourist destinations, will be adapted to today's needs and in tune with the necessary security measures for both you and host communities. For me, Chiapas is one of those places that stimulates our senses naturally. It has the scent of raindrops on dry earth, of pine needles getting dry on the ground, of copal incense and candles. Everywhere you look you will find something that catches your eye: a colourful building, a beautiful piece of traditional fabric, a curious handicraft, or a multi-coloured dish. This is the place where the breath of wind that exhales from caves, the waterfalls' endless energy, and the strong wingbeat of hummingbirds and thousands of other tropical birds will make you feel alive. It would be my genuine pleasure help you having unique experiences and get the best out of your stay in Mexico. - BA degree in History. Sumidero Canyon is one of the deepest geological faults in the world! It is in a National Park that is a Protected Natural Area and a RAMSAR site. From the viewpoints located on top of the canyon you'll get a good bird's eye view of the gorge, however, to really experience it you must take a boat tour on the river that runs through the canyon. Sailing surrounded by tropical forest and wildlife, the Canyon and its enormity will leave a lasting impression on you. This natural wonder which is the emblem of Chiapas is also wrapped in romantic stories and legends that few local guides like me know how to demystify. Near the Canyon is the Colonial city of Chiapa de Corzo which bears titles of Historical Monuments Zone, Heroic City and Magic Town; therefore, I believe is the best scenario to talk about regional history, culture and traditions. This city is also the cradle of great marimba players and artisans and is the venue of a festivity considered by all of us, the chiapanecos, The Great Party of Chiapas.
- Pick up at meeting point - Transfer to Sumidero Canyon National Park to visit 3 of 5 viewpoints (2. 5h) From this vantage points you will capture the depth of the canyon and might see some wildlife like a white-tailed deer or a rare tropical bird like the Slender Sheartail or the Fan-tailed Warbler. - Transfer to the docks in Chiapa de Corzo to take a boat tour (2. 5h) From water's surface you will have a proper perspective of the Canyon and its limestone formations like "The Seahorse", "The Christmas tree", The Cave of Colors, as well as seasonal waterfalls, lots of waterbirds and maybe a few endangered species such as the American crocodile and spider monkey. - Transfer to Colonial Town of Chiapa de Corzo downtown for a walking tour (1h) You will visit historical monuments like "La Pochota" (Ceiba tree), "The Pile", and the Temple of Santo Domingo; also, The Arcades to admire local handicrafts. - Stop in a restaurant to try local food (optional) - Drop off This tour can be customized upon request
