I am a Bedouin from Petra. I was born in a Bedouin tent on the mountain heights above Petra. When I was a child my family and I would often take our rest and relaxation in the caves of the ancient city of Petra. Petra was my playground as a child and my place of inspiration. I used to walk almost five miles to school, and living in this openness made my mind open and my dreams infinite. When I finished my higher education I got specialized in Radiological Technology and worked at a hospital as the head of x-ray department for four successive years but my passion to the rocks of Petra kept me guiding guests from time to another before I quited to become a full time freelance licensed tour guide. I'm totally passionate about history and ancient cultures. One of the things I love the most is to see people's smile and hear the "wow" they say when see or understand something new. Private tours really help on this as everything becomes much more personal and intense and the simple fact that you arrange everything with your guide, this helps to create a relationship even before you get here. I'm also a relaxed and laid back person, I always prefer to turn these tours into an informal walk and conversation, allowing you to feel and understand the places. Though tours are planned to be informal, they are also planned to be very informative and 100% customizable. Overview of your Aqaba tour

Hidden behind an almost impenetrable barrier of rugged mountains, the rock-carved city of Petra is full of mysterious charm. The approach through the cool gloom of the Siq, a long narrow gorge whose steeply rising sides all but obliterate the sun, provides a dramatic contrast with the magic to come. Suddenly the gorge opens into a natural square dominated by Petra's most famous monument, the Khasneh, whose intricately carved facade glows in the dazzling sun. More facades beckon you or on until the ancient city gradually unfolds, one monument leading to the next for kilometer after kilometer. The sheer size of the city and the quality of beautifully carved facades is staggering and leads one to reflect on the creativity and industry of the Nabateans who made Petra their capital more than 2, 000 years ago. From their capital at Petra the Nabateans had established an elaborate network of caravan routes which brought spices, incense, myrrh, gold, silver and precious stones from India and Arabia.

We took this tour in January, 2026. My wife and I booked the "Multi-Day (10 day) Trip all over Jordan" with Mahmoud H. It was a fantastic trip. Mahmoud was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable about Jordan's history and told us many stories about the ancient times and as life as a Bedouin. This tour also came with a very nice SUV including a driver for the entire trip. But first some basics. Jordan is a very safe country to visit. My wife was apprehensive when we booked the trip because of the obvious conflicts happening in the surrounding countries. But now she will be the first person to admit that Jordan is completely safe. At no time was she concerned with her safety. Also, all the people (including vendors) are very nice and polite. Unlike with some country's vendors, who will chase and hound you, all you have to do is say "no thanks" and they will leave you alone. I modified our trip slightly from the original itinerary, which was easily accommodated. I wanted an extra day to fully explore the highlights of Petra. The day I gained in Petra was offset by just a drop off in Aqaba on our final day. We then flew out of Aqaba directly to Cairo instead of being transferred back to Amman to fly to Cairo. If you want to see most of the highlights of Petra, I also suggest taking two days to explore Petra. Everyday we got into the car to head for the next place, we would hear a detailed explanation of where or what we were visiting. This explanation would include history, and would often include references that the Bible made to these geographical and historical points of interest. Mahmoud knew his history! He has a very in depth knowledge of his country and its history. Our car rides were not wasted time, Mahmoud would fill every moment with these history lessons. This 10 day itinerary does an excellent job of covering all of the highlights of Jordan, and we highly recommend this tour. As we found out late in the trip, Mahmoud had been calling our hotels to make sure everything was in order for our arrival the next day. That showed the attention to detail that Mahmoud had and everything went perfectly on this tour. We highly recommend this tour and in particular, Mahmoud, he is an EXCELLENT TOUR GUIDE. Just a side note, to be sure to purchase the Jordan Pass if you need a Jordan visa and are going to Petra. The cost of the visa and Petra ticket about equals the price of the Jordan pass. All of the other entrance tickets that the pass covers, are then free.

A flight cancellation shortened our time in Jordan to two days. Mahmoud devised an itinerary that allowed us to see Jarash and Petra ( along with Mountain Nebo). Mahmoud lives in Petra so he has exceptional knowledge of the huge Petra site ( don’t stop at the Treasury, that is just the warm up act). Mahmoud has a great personality to match his knowledge of history.

Mahmoud was an all round excellent tour guide. We grew to love him !!! (4 retirees) He was always prompt, organized and very pleasant. His depth of knowledge was amazing and he answered our many many questions in an informed and interesting manner. He added such flavor with passion to teach us about Jordanian history and culture and we were enriched by his story telling. He provided a clean van and an excellent driver Sami whom we really liked and appreciated. Mahmoud was flexible, we changed some plans at the last minute and we took his excellent advice on logistics. We encourage others to explore Jordan it is a fascinating beautiful place, with delightful people, especially the Bedouins who made us so welcome. We felt completely safe. We Thoroughly recommend Mahmoud as a guide while traveling in Jordan, he brings the culture and history totally alive.

Your Aqaba tour itinerary

After meeting In Amman, cruise ship, or land border we take the drive to Petra and visit the site. The city tour begins by taking you past some fascinating monuments carved out of the rock such as Djinn blocks, the obelisk tomb and an ancient dam. These lead you into the Siq, a natural narrow gorge that is over a kilometer long. It serves as the main entrance into Petra and is certainly the most dramatic way in. The Siq meanders gently towards the ancient city and opens onto a spectacular view of the Treasury (Al Khazna), an intricate façade that first greets you. The tour then takes you past a street of facades, the theatre, a colonnaded street and ends at Qasr El Bint where you can have your lunch in one of the two restaurants nearby and see the museums located there, back to the visitors' center afterwards. Then take the drive back for departure.
