Treviso is a charming walled town on the countryside just few miles away from Venice : the perfect half-day trip during your stay in Venice ! Treviso is an underrated gem rich in canals and watermills, medieval buildings with colorful frescos, cobbled streets with beautiful local "botteghe" ,fountains with spring water ( impossible not to mention the famous "fontana delle tette ),traditional osterie where to taste the famous Prosecco (yes we are in the Prosecco area!) paired with the local cicchetti or Tiramisù (Treviso is its birthplace )! Treviso is a lively rich little town, not reached yet by the mass-tourism that will enchant you ,a quiet alternative to Venice ! Treviso can be easily reached by train from Venice ( the most sustainable way to travel )
We will meet in Piazza dei Signori,Treviso's main square lined with cafes and medieval buildings to start with our 3 hours relaxing walking tour ( luckily much of the historic centre is pedestrianized) Walking around we will discover the intricate networks of canals with the typical water-mills formed by the Sile and Botteniga rivers, among them the charming Canale dei Buranelli which takes its name from the venetian fishermen of Burano who once came here to sell their fishes. The connection with Venice is undeniable, don' t forget that Treviso was part of the Maritime Republic of Venice for centuries. We will get to know the story behind the famous "fontana delle tette", how and where Tiramisù was created and much more about Treviso history, traditions and contemporary everydays'life. During our walking tour I will suggest you where to stop & taste the best Tiramisù in town or the traditional "panin caldo co ea porchetta de Treviso"obviously paired with a bubbly Prosecco.
