The city's graceful medieval center is well worth a stop. The old-town treasures survive the destruction by Genoese forces that invaded the city in the middle of the 16th century. During our visit we'll find in the old-town many noble palaces with 16th-century doorways and atriums built in the 13th century. We cannot miss the Ceramic Museum with a location that has no equal . . . a palace wanted by Pope Sisto IV as the first office of charity in 1479. The 16th-century Cathedral "Nostra Signora Assunta" with the small Sistine Chapel are two other jewels of the city that we will visit. To continue with the symbol of the city, the Fortress of Priamar and see many watchtowers near the port area. What about the new quarter built with the Maritime Station following a project by Richard Bofil? Come to discover the taste of Chinotto, a slow-food presidium, in a historic place of the city. . . will be the worthy ending of this fantastic itinerary!
