Are you interested in learning about spectacle and murderous entertainment like gladiatorial games? During this private tour you will visit the most famous entertainment building of the world: the Colosseum and the gladiator training school ("Ludus Magnus"). You will hear stories of slaves become heroes, fighters trained to kill a tiger and to know how to die just to entertain people. Fighting styles, weapons and the shows will be described to let you understand one of the darkest sides of the ancient Roman world! This is a "slow-tour" for people that have a strong interest in ancient Roman society and want to understand the Romans' moral and cultural outlook and the role of demagogy in Ancient Rome. WARNING: The Colosseum tickets are nominative. Your proof of identity (passport or other picture ID) must be kept on hand at the Park entrances. In case of mismatch with the identity document, access to the Colosseum will not be allowed.
Valentina was the perfect guide for the Colosseum. As an archaeologist who has worked both at the Colosseum and Roman Forum, she has intimate knowledge of all aspects of the building and its deep history. She knew just how to pace the tour and knew how to navigate so that we were not in massive crowds anywhere. Her English is perfect and she has a good sense of humor. Highly recommend her. You can’t do better!!
We really enjoyed our tour with Valentina in Rome. As an archeologist, her knowledge of history of place was deep and her presentation engaging. What an amazing tour - Valentina is not just a tour guide - she is an archeologist and it shows in every minute that you spend with her. In addition to altering where we met so there was no confusion, to getting us in through fast pass she made the colosseum come alive with her descriptions and knowledge of the space and the history. She helped us with best way to find an Uber in the rain! We even had a gentleman come up and interrupt us asking if she was available the next day for a tour because he overheard the information and tour that we were being provided. Great day!
