Ciao! I’m Giorgio, a licensed tour guide from Bari (since 2010) with a lifelong passion for the people, traditions, food, stories, and spirit of my land — Puglia and Basilicata. Growing up in Bari, I learned early on that culture isn’t just something you observe — it’s something you feel, taste, laugh with, and live. That’s exactly what I love to share on my tours. Whether we’re walking through the winding alleys of Bari Vecchia, exploring the fascinating Sassi of Matera, discovering the coastal villages, or visiting artisan towns like Grottaglie with its incredible ceramics, I want you to experience these places as if you were being welcomed by a local friend — curious, open-hearted, and ready to taste everything that makes this region so special. My approach to guiding is warm, flexible, and deeply human. I love hearing your questions — about history, everyday life, quirks of Italian culture, even politics — and turning them into lively conversations that add layers of connection and meaning to what you see. Many guests have told me they felt like they were walking with a friend rather than just following a guide. I also strongly believe that food is one of the most honest and joyful ways to understand a place. You’ll often find moments in my tours where we stop for a taste of local specialties, meet artisans and makers, watch pasta being hand-made, or pull up a chair with locals at a vibrant market. It’s all part of the real culture that doesn’t sit in a history book but lives in daily life here. Beyond Bari and Matera, my customized tours can take you to the villages, towns, and landscapes that make southern Italy unforgettable — Polignano a Mare, Monopoli, Alberobello with its trulli, Ostuni the White City, ancient olive groves, vineyards, Castel del Monte, Castellana Grotte, Grottaglie with its ceramics, and countless hidden gems you may not even know exist yet. Each destination is a chapter of rich history, artistry, and warm humanity, and I take joy in helping you connect with both. I’m truly grateful to the wonderful travelers who have shared their experiences and feedback over the years — your trust and curiosity are the heart of what I do. I look forward to welcoming new friends to explore these incredible places and unforgettable moments together. Licensed Tour Guide n. 00459 — Puglia Region

"We had no idea that any of this could exist". This is what my guests usually say at the end of the tour of Matera Sassi. In recent years, Matera has become quite touristy. However, not many travelers get to know the most authentic and true part of this wonderful site protected by Unesco. My tour is an experience that combines history, culture, politics and amusing anecdotes. Between not beaten paths and unforgettable photographic glimpses, I will tell you what made this place the "European capital of culture 2019", despite being declared "national shame" in 1952 by the Prime Minister and why you will return home keeping a wonderful memory in your heart!
We loved our Matera tour with Giorgio. He was a pleasure to be with and we learned so much from him. We highly recommend his tour.
Giorgio was in a word- super! He was so knowledgeable and his love for the area shined through. We were a 3 generation family and he went out of his way to connect with us all, including our 14 year old grandson. He was warm and friendly and we learned so much more about Matera, as his explanations totally enriched our understanding of the region. We look forward to tour with him again on our next trip to Puglia!
We were with Georgio in both Alberobello and Matera. He was excellent. With him we saw and learned things about both towns we never could or would have on our own. He was very attentive to our questions and particular interests. We highly recommend him.
Though our original guide had to cancel, he arranged for another guide who was fabulous. The tour itself, the history he shared, the special / unique places he showed us. We had a great time! Highly recommend it!
Outstanding experience with Giorgio. We learned a lot about Matera but most importantly we learned about the people and community. Giorgio speaks beautifully and passionately, sharing many interesting historical elements and personal anecdotes. Thanks Giorgio for sharing your experience, insights and humor.
Our half day tour of Matera with Giorgio was brilliant! We gained much insight about Matera and the neighboring regions, answering all our questions along the way. He was especially thoughtful of our route as we had a rainy day. Highly recommend Giorgio =)
During this walking tour we will visit the three areas of the old city of Matera, called Sassi: - The Sasso Barisano, where we will have the opportunity to visit a furnished cave house and enjoy suggestive views, among ancient stairways carved into the stone and fantastic views of the ravine. - The Sasso Caveoso and its millenary rock churches, from which we will have the opportunity to admire and, when possible, visit the Casalnuovo area, completely abandoned and devoid of any modern comfort or technology. - The Civita, on the top of which stands the beautiful Romanesque Cathedral whose interiors are finely decorated in Baroque style. I can create a customized tour for you in case you have special requests.
