Discover and enjoy the authentic Puglia. Welcome in Puglia (or Apulia): the sunny and windy "heel of the Italian boot". We are Italy's easternmost region, right in the middle of the Mediterranean sea with culture and traditions that are the results of several different dominations, cultural and economic influences. First of all I'm a traveler (for leisure and work) and I like to discover foreign countries and their culture, traditions, food, people, etc. I have been working in tourism since 1998 as travel designer, event organizer, licensed tourist guide, nature (hike and bike) and interpretive guide, tour leader, food and wine lover (olive oil taster, wine sommelier). I'm passionate about my region and I like to share our amazing attractions and culture with other people. Puglia is an "easy region": the weather is quite warm all year long (the best time to come is from March to November but it's worth to come also in winter time), people is friendly (… but only a few people speaks English or another foreign language), there are always lots of events and things to do and our Mediterranean diet is healthy and tasty for everybody (amazing choice of tasty meat, fish, pasta, rice, legumes, vegetables and fruit recipes). Travelers who come for the first time in Puglia usually are fascinated by the Puglian daylight and the colours of the seaside and the countryside. I'll share with you the soul of Puglia, its culture, traditions, flavors, nature, scent, vibes . . . If you're looking for an hyper detailed and boring visit I'm not the tour guide for you but if you like a friendly and easy going person who will make his best, thanks to his experience and empathy, to understand and satisfy your needs, to suggest the right choices matching with your interests, to introduce in our culture and traditions, to help you in spending a very nice time … then contact me. I'm a licensed tour guide, nature (hike and bike) guide, environmental educator; wine sommelier, certified olive oil taster, tour leader. Education and training: University degree with experimental final essay (with photographic appendix) in Geography about Apulian rural buildings (masseria, villa, trullo); Master in Tourism Economics and Management; Professional training courses: tour guide, nature and interpretive guide, environmental educator, bike guide, bicycle mechanic, BLSD (Basic Life Support Defibrillation), inclusive and accessible tourism; Cooking, wine and extra virgin olive oil tasting classes; Workshop about recognition of Apulian wild orchids; Photography's workshop about show and Entertainment, nature. PLEASE WRITE ME BEFORE BOOKING (this way we will be sure the tour will match perfectly your needs in terms of price, service included, date, start time, duration, etc.). THIS WAY IS EASIER AND FASTER FOR YOU AND ME.

Overview of your Matera tour

With a full day guided visit it's possible to discover all the treasures of Matera (also the hidden ones in the surroundings) with the different colours of the daylight, to taste its wine, cheese, bread and focaccia. A walk in the Sassi (that means stones), declared Unesco world heritage site because they represent "the most outstanding, intact example of a troglodyte settlement in the Mediterranean region, perfectly adapted to its terrain and ecosystem" and also the other area of the city center (the medieval, the Baroque one, etc). We will enjoy this magic, unique town of stone that has been chosen as as natural set for several movies such as Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ", the remake of Ben Hur and Wonder Woman, Marie Magdalene, James Bond 25 "No time to die", Terrence Malick's "The Way of the Wind". This itinerary is designed to enjoy slowly the evolution of Matera during the time, breathtaking views, unique flavors, local experiences and unforgettable memories.

We had a wonderful day with Alessandro P. touring Mater, The Sassi, and the surrounding area. He is very knowledgeable, personable, and so willing to help with any request that you might have. He went out of his way to ensure we had a special day. He willingly spent extra time helping with a special request we asked him about. We were in Matera eleven years ago, and Alessandro was our guide. He was so good we remembered him and requested him again for our recent trip.

This was a fully custom tour. We began in Polignano a Mare, where we had been staying for a week. We would end the day in Matera, where we would spend two nights. Alessandro picked us up with all of our luggage, and pointed out so many things. As we approached Matera we stopped so that we could first appreciate it and all the caves from the distance. Then he got us to our hotel in the center of Matera, and spent several hours walking us around and introducing us to various people he knew. He also recommended hiking sticks for this stop, and mine had been in our stolen luggage. So he loaned his to me. We had now spent five days with Alessandro, and hated to part ways. He is the best!

We had several tours with Alessandro. If I could give him more than 5 stars I would. Before our arrival in Italy, he helped us plan our stay in Puglia. His suggestions have been amazing and he knows the area and history deeply. Every suggestion has been flawless and he made our stay in Puglia very special and personalized. I highly recommend booking tours with Alessandro!

I highly recommend Alessandro. He provided us with a great tour of Matera including a stop at a gluten free bakery to pick up focaccia for my husband which we took to another "regular" bakery where we all had a delicious lunch. Matera is a fascinating city and Alessandro led the perfect tour sharing and explaining both the history of the town and the realities of life in Matera today.

Allessandro is an excellent tour guide - the very best!!! He gave us great insight into the history and beauty of Puglia. He's extremely knowledgeable on all the areas we visited, good English language skills - very easy to understand, great personality, catered to our specific wishes - picking us up both days at our Ostuni Masseria and even giving us extra time for personal shopping. We couldn't have chosen a better guide to really show us the best of Alberobello, Polignano a Mare and especially Matera.

Our tour guide in Matera, Alessandro was outstanding! Not only was he incredibly flexible, adapting to our group's pace and interests, but his knowledge of native plants added a unique and fascinating layer to our experience. He had an uncanny ability to find all the best spots for exploration and photo opportunities, making our hike in and around Matera unforgettable. Highly recommend!

Your Matera tour itinerary

- Belvedere (panoramic viewpoint) up on the ravine in front of Matera to admire the stunning skyline of this unique city and the caves utilized since the prehistoric times. If you like also some soft hiking in this area OR a stop at the daily food market OR a bread baking class -Crypt of the Original Sin with its astonishing frescoes made in the 8-9th century A. D. -At lunch I suggest a quick visit to a bakery to taste the traditional bread, focaccia and almond biscuits. If you prefer a longer served lunch there is the farm next to the crypt, a restaurant in Matera, etc. -Matera with the Unesco Sassi: a unique experience among rupestrian (it means carved in the rock) dwellings partly carved in the sandstone and partly built with the blocks extracted from the rock. -A typically furnished cave dwelling to understand the life of a peasant family until WW2. -The ghost town used as movie set. -If you like we can enjoy the medieval and baroque area, a stop for a gelato, cheese, salami and wine tasting.
