I am a French licensed guide and a wine guide. Food, wine and history are my passions. I have worked for 3 big wineries in Chateauneuf-du-Pape from 2012 until 2015 in exports departments, and this is how I was swept into the world of wine tasting and guiding. Having worked with 3 of the most renowned cellars in Châteauneuf-du-Pape for 3 years, I will be delighted to tell you about all the mysteries and secrets of this fantastic terroir! You'll be Lucky to be in one of the most picturesque and authentic vineyard in France as Châteauneuf has remained the same through time -unlike many other French Vineyards!- and faithful to its tradition and ancestral way of working the land and making wine. *This tour is not available at the weekend as the cellars are closed.
Sophie made this tour of Châteauneuf-du-Pape the highlight of our vacation on the Rhone River. Her pre-trip communication was outstanding and insured that our wine tasting experience was planned in every detail to meet our specific requests. Sophie made sure our expectations were exceeded and was extremely accommodating to all of our unplanned needs. The wine was delicious and Sophie made the entire experience educational and fun.
Sophie was amazing, she picked us up in her car, drove us around and gave us a tour of the area, and then brought us to three different wine tastings at three different estates. Each of the estates was a little different, and it was so much fun sitting and talking and tasting the wines with her and learning about the wine and area. I would highly recommend the tour.
We would give Sophie more than 5 stars if we could! Her knowledge of grape growing, wine making, winery owners and history is phenomenal. We toured two very interesting wineries and engaged with a winemaker in the fermentation room as the first harvests were arriving. Not only that, when the third appointment failed to materialize (not her fault), she quickly figured out another destination that was just stellar -the doors were kept open for us and we sampled some extraordinary vintages!
Sophie knows wine, grapes and local practices. It was very obvious that she is an experienced guide with excellent American English.
We loved the relaxed easy going yet very informative nature Sophie provided. The wineries she chose for us to visit were very welcoming and served us fine wines which we enjoyed sampling. We would highly recommend this tour with Sophie.
Very good tour excellent guide
Starting at 9 am or 2pm (non touristic cellars shut between noon and 2pm) picking up from Chateauneuf du Pape, Avignon or Orange, you'll be able to visit and taste wines in 2 different Châteauneuf-du-Pape Domaines. Explanation of course will be provided regarding the terroir and the methods of vinification. Sites will vary depending on the day, or on the traveller's requests and taste.
