Lalibela 2-day tour with trekking outside the city

With this tour, we will visit the old town of Lalibela which is 900 years old. It was the Zagwe capital of RohaIt, today called Lalibela.

I will show you around bringing you to the traditional market. We have an old tradition for the coffee preparation and it will be interesting to see how it is done.

On the second day, we will go trekking with a local guide to reach the Asheton Maryam monastery carved in a mountain. It is located 25 km outside the city. There is a beautiful landscape view from there, we can enjoy a pic nic and visit the cave with a local guide.

My experience as a local native, will make your tour enjoyable and complete with the information and curiosities.

With my many years of guiding experience, you will discover the 12th century church of Yemrahanna Kristos church!

his most famous cave church, 42 km north-east of Lalibela, was built by King Yemrehanna Kristos (Brother of King Lalibela) in the year 1087AD 80 Years prior to Lalibela churches. This wood and stone construction with its white marble panel exterior resembles the architecture of old Aksum.

The church attracted many pilgrims due to its curative holy water. The remains of over 10, 000 pilgrims from Syria, Egypt or Jerusalem, who came here to die, lie in a chamber behind the main building and add to the eerie feeling that the cave already has.

On the interior walls of church are the oldest wall paintings in Ethiopia and it is the only historical evidence between the Axumite and Zagwe Dynasty.

Sights of North Ethiopia - multi day tour from Lalibela

With this tour, I will show you some highlights of North Ethiopia and give you information about our history, culture, curiosities.

We will visit Gonder, the seat of the king of Ethiopia (17th and 18th century), the next day we visit the simian National park in Debark. We will do trekking to admire the spectacular mountain landscape.
We cannot miss a visit to Bahir Dar where by boat we will see the biggest Lake in Ethiopian - Lake Tana, and its monastery from 13th century. There are hippopotamus to see at the lake to see!

The source of Blue Nile waterfalls will be our last point of interest to visit before going back to Lalibela.

Northern Ethiopia Multi Day Historic Tour from Lalibela

I grew up in a place with reach history and I love to share my culture and the beauty of my country. Ethiopia is the land of the origin and Lalibela is considered the unofficial 8th wonder of the world (UNESCO world heritage site).

With this tour, I will take you to the Blue Nile Falls, Bahir Dar and experience a boat trip on lake Tana with unique island monasteries and nature (animal viewing- and excellent birding).

You cannot miss the visit to the former imperial town of Gondar (UNESCO world heritage site). A breath-taking landscape of the Simien Mountain with numerous endemic animals (UNESCO world natural site) will be part of our itinerary as well.

Lalibela 11 churches - Multi Day Tour

The hike from Lalibela to Asheton Maryam is very rewarding (If you needed one) to explore the stunning mountain scenery surrounding Lalibela. It is one of my favourite Eco friendly Trekking routes over the Ethiopian highlands which I invite everyone to join me, It would took us about 3 - 4 hours one way, walking at a reasonable pace and it is a great opportunity to discover the routine life of the Local community.

No matter how fast or slower hikers you would be because the hike would be done with your own pace.

Within 15 minutes walk, you will find yourself leaving the town, walking with the local community, breathing the fresh air, wondering the landscape, Flora and Fauna of Mt. Asheton.

The journey requires the cooperation of a team. I am part of one with many years of experience and keen on making your experience on tour as special as possible. We will use our own equipment and an experienced trekking crew so you can feel comfortable all the time!

The itinerary to the Simien Mountain is a well-known destination for trekking lovers, offering great landscape and stunning views. Expect to see a variety of wildlife including Gelada monkey, Walia Ibex and a variety of bird life as well as amazing natural scenery.

The elevation of the trek will rise and fall between 2000 - 4000 meters above sea level.

Being the 3rd highest mountain in Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Red Fox, Gelada Baboons and more than 200 bird species are additional hidden beauty.

The hike is very rewarding (If you needed one) to explore the stunning mountain scenery surrounding Lalibela.
