Hello, I'm Mary. Welcome to Orkney. We are (almost) 59 degrees north of the equator and 524 miles from the Arctic Circle. After a surprise birthday visit to Orkney in November 2012, we relocated our family here six months later. Becoming a driver guide was a natural progression for me, I love to meet people from all over the world I love history and I love driving, all these combined means I can show you the historical marvels and beautiful scenery I see every day. I am happy to tailor your tour to your requirements, from 4 hours to multiple days. Shore excursions are very welcome, there is a lot to see in one day. Orkney has thousands of years of human habitation on these islands. There are many relics of the distant past and also the not so distant past to be explored from standing stones and Neolithic homesteads to towering turbines of renewable energy, throw into the mix Vikings, Scottish rule, the Hudson Bay Company, herring fleets, World Wars, distilleries, breweries and even an Arctic Explorer, it's hard to know where to start and where to finish. I would be delighted to help you choose. Wish you were here? We had a wonderful day with Mary, who picked us up at the port and made everything easy. After a quick chat, we started our adventure. First, we visited the fascinating Pictish stones, enjoying the beautiful landscapes. Next, we went to Skara Brae. Although the main site was closed, we watched a video, saw a replica hut, and heard insights from a local staff member. At the Kirbuster Museum, we discovered interesting artifacts, and then we visited the Italian Chapel, where we learned its history and got to see some amazing views. Mary surprised us with delicious shortbread she had picked up after hearing we liked Shortbread from another tour we talked about with her. At the end of the day, she offered to drop us off at the ship or downtown, and we appreciated her excellent recommendations for our time in town. We highly recommend Mary as a tour guide for your Kirkwall visit!

Mary is a delightful and knowledgeable guide who took us to many of Orkney’s historical sites. She explained the importance of each site, gave information about Orkney life, culture, and made us all want to revisit in the future! The beautiful and haunting landscapes and the long history of human habitation in this intriguing place will remain with us.

Mary was wonderful. The time together was well spent. There were four of us and we all enjoyed our time spent with her and the maps she provided and reviewed after each stop was extremely helpful. Her knowledge of the area was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful time. Nancy
