Explore Taichung your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Taichung tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Taichung for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Time your visit to the Gaomei Wetlands for the boardwalk at low tide and sunset birdwatching, then head to Dakeng Trails for forested ridge walks. On a cooler day, visit Xinshe’s mushroom farms and hillsides of seasonal flowers.

Layover tours: From the HSR, sample suncakes and ice cream at Miyahara, sip the original-style bubble tea at Chun Shui Tang, and stroll the Calligraphy Greenway and Painted Animation Lane before heading back. If you have a bit longer, pop into the National Taichung Theater for a quick architecture tour.

Off The Beaten Path tours: Visit Dajia Zhenlan Temple when the incense coils are lit, wander Houli’s Zhongshe Flower Market for colourful photo spots, and detour to the Wufeng Lin Family Mansion for a quieter heritage stop. Add Guangfu New Village’s creative studios for local design finds.

Taichung is spread out, with a limited MRT and a bus system that can be slow for cross-town routes; ask your local guide about chauffeured tours or tours with private transportation to link far-flung stops smoothly.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Taichung inside and out.

From Taichung, it’s easy to branch out to nearby lakes, old streets, and mountain hills on simple day trips that match your pace, and these day trips also work well as private tours shaped around food, history, or nature.

- Sun Moon Lake (Nantou): Ride the lakeside bike path, hop a boat between piers, and visit Wenwu Temple for wide views, then add a stop in Yuchi for tea tasting; this suits you if you like gentle cycling, calm water views, and a bit of culture in one outing, with your tour set to balance activities and free time.

- Lukang: Explore Longshan Temple, stroll Lukang Old Street for wood and glass crafts, and try oyster omelettes and mochi; a good fit if you enjoy heritage sites, street food, and slower lanes where short walks link temples, shops, and snack stands.

- Gaomei Wetlands: Walk the boardwalk across tidal flats, watch shorebirds feed, and catch a big sunset with wind turbines on the horizon; go if you’re into nature, easy photo spots, and fresh coastal air, and pair it with a simple seafood meal in nearby Qingshui.

- Guguan Hot Springs: Follow a river valley into the hills for forest walks, suspension bridges, and public foot-soak pools; ideal if you want light hiking and a warm soak without a long drive, and you can keep the pace relaxed with short trails and scenic stops.

- Alishan: Ride segments of the forest railway, walk cypress boardwalks, and, with an early start, aim for the famed cloud sea at sunrise; best if you like classic mountain views, cool air, and a full-day plan, with your tour tuned to train times and trail lengths you prefer.
