Overview of your Madrid tour
Atienza is a Historic-Artistic Site in the province of Guadalajara and a crossroads of important routes in its region: the El Cid Route, the Rural Romanesque Route, and the Don Quixote Route. The Castle, located at the highest point of the town, is Atienza's most representative monument. Used by the Celtiberians and later by the Arabs, who built a strong citadel, it was renovated by the Christians after the Reconquista. During the Middle Ages, it changed hands numerous times between the 9th and 11th centuries. Sigüenza, on the other hand, has a cathedral built by order of Bernard of Agén after the Christian Reconquista and completed in the 15th century. However, Sigüenza Castle is the most visited point of interest, as it was a medieval palace-fortress from the 12th century. Built on an ancient Arab citadel and in turn built on a Roman settlement, it was the residence of bishops, cardinals and kings.
