Birgu, Isla and Bormla: the 3 cities

The 3 cities are not just some of the oldest cities in the island, these are also some of the most authentic places in the whole island. Birgu is one of the oldest cities in the country, born under the protection of the oldest castle in the Grand Harbour, and it is still one of the most alive areas. But it cannot be properly understood without Isla, the first city buily by the Order in Malta and that resisted with Birgu the Great Siege. And finally Bormla, the city that joined the two of them later on. We will visit the amazing fortifications that the Order built to protect the area, their decadent buildings, their alive streets, their popular squares and their peculiar and hidden places, a mirror of Maltese society and a perfect area to understand the life in the arcipelago, its history and its charm.

The idea of the tour is to see the most of these 3 amazing cities, so we meet at the entrance of Birgu, discovering its amazing fortifications and the historical streets where first the knights walked and fought, later the Axis bombarded and now the locals live and enjoy themselves. We cross through the sea to pass by Bormla (is a very depressed area, but I can suggest some places to visit after the tour on your own) to visit Isla and, like in Birgu, some of its most authentic streets, up the old fortifications, passing churchs and areas rebuilt after WWII to end at the very end of the city, with some of the nicest views of the Grand Harbour. We will go around the city, finishing in a popular and convenient area full of restaurants and bars where to end up in the best way you can in Malta: having a good food!
