Poh, our “Tours By Locals” guide for our Penang Port excursion was exceptional! She cheerfully accepted the many changes and additions that we proposed to the original looking. We were originally six and changed it to four persons. We were a 1 o’clock start and changed it to a 12 o’clock start. We were originally a walking tour and changed it to a tour with a private driver. The excursion was a food and cultural tour, where she provided an excellent array of each. We enjoyed many samples of wonderful local cuisine, explained about each different dish and provided an experience with the locals. We were also taken to two Buddhist temples, where she explained about the differences as we enjoyed the beauty of each. She also had the driver take us to different areas of the town and explained the history of Penang and the importance of it for the people. Poh was also intuitive and responsive to our needs and adjusted the tour based on our ability to take spicy foods. Our tour guide, Poh, went above and beyond even after the tour helping to retrieve a lost item during the tour. Her local knowledge and trust with local merchants assisted in finding and returning the item. She has kept in touch to ensure the item has been returned.

Poh took us to the best local eateries in Georgetown! There are many selections for food, but she knows where the true locals eat and which ones are more authentic. Everything was delicious and we definitely bookmarked all the spots we went so we can return next time.

Poh showed us so many wonderful places to eat in Penang. She seems to know all of the best places to eat and has a great route set up to allow you to taste a wide variety of options. My husband and I were full about halfway through the tour, but somehow we kept tasting different foods.

A wide variety of tastes, sights, sounds and smells - mostly delicious, some a tad confronting (at the wet market). Nevertheless, we really appreciated the glimpse into the 'real' life of locals and don't regret it. She was flexible and accommodating. She met us at our hotel lobby in Georgetown and we just walked around the old town on what we'd set up as a brunch and introductory tour to Penang. It was insightful to learn about how the different waves of colonisation and migration have influenced Penang's development and cuisine. She was patient as one of our party was a bit older so needed to walk and cross roads at a slower pace and they also wanted to peruse some of the merchandise at the markets. All in all, I would recommend Poh for a walking tour of Georgetown with some interesting tastings and insights. Just be prepared for the Malaysian heat while walking around town.
