A huge double arch made of four sheet-metal tusks spans Moi Avenue as a welcome gateway to visitors coming into town from Kilindini Harbor or the port of Mombasa. This symbol of the wealth of Africa was erected in 1952 in honor of a British royal visit. Nearby, Uhuru Gardens (freedom) Fountain is built in the shape of the African continent.
