This is a walking (not a cycling tour) of Onomichi town to get an overview of the fun shops, interesting temples and opportunities for cycling from this town. Onomichi is a favorite of photographers and off-the-beaten track sightseers. It is only an hour from Hiroshima (or Okayama) along the Seto-inland sea, made famous as a trading port & more recently famous as the starting point of the Shimanami cycle route. It has been the setting of famous films and the inspiration for writers throughout its history. What fascinates me is how Onomichi has revived itself with sustainable design and entrepreneurship in the last 5 years- it is always a chance to engage with interesting locals and appreciate their creativity. This is a walking tour, but you can access Onomichi station by bus or train or shinkansen train from Hiroshima or Okayama in about an hour. We have the option of using a cable car to get to the top viewpoint instead of walking up/down the steps (500 yen each way).
