Buongiorno! My name is Simonetta, I'm a licensed Tour Guide in Friuli Venezia Giulia with almost twenty years experience. I was born in a charming little village in the western part of the region, which I have also included in my tours' list. Friuli Venezia Giulia is set between the coast of the Adriatic Sea and the Alps and boasts a surprising variety of natural and urban environments, rich in unique traditions, languages and flavours, which originate from its peculiar position, at the crossroads between different worlds. I'd like to share with you all the good things that our land has to offer: beautiful sceneries, history, art, good food and excellent wines, and all that mostly far from the crowds! To me, giving a tour is not just showing things and giving facts and figures, but rather help visitors plunge into the spirit of a place by making them aware of past history and present way of living. If, at the same time I can impart on them my passion for this wonderful part of Italy, then my goal is reached. In my tours I like to include a tasting of genuine local products whenever possible, as involving all the senses is part of the experience. Of course my suggestions can be tailored to suit your needs and desires. I'm also available to help you with accomodation, if needed. Just write to me and together we can craft the perfect tour for you. Two-hour drive from Venice and one and a half from Trieste, Spilimbergo is a little medieval town in the heart of Friuli. You can enjoy the quiet atmosphere of a little North Italian town taking a stroll in the historical centre surrounded by beautiful porticoed palaces with painted façades and then stop for a good glass of Friulian wine and a taste of prosciutto di San Daniele in one of the local "osterie", typical taverns. Spilimbergo is also home to the world famous Mosaic School of Friuli that has trained lots of mosaics masters from all over the world in its almost one hundred years of history. The unmistakable masterpieces of this school can be admired all over the world: in the subway station at Ground Zero as well as in Quebec City's Maison Simons and also in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, just to mention a few. Whether you are an art lover or just a curious person I'm sure you will be captured by the beauty of these unique works of art and impressed by the skill of their creators.
-Guided tour of the Mosaic school of Friuli including permanent exhibition of mosaics and workshops. -The school can be visited anytime of the day and of the year, including weekends but if you want to see students at work, then you must come during the school year, that is from the end of September to the end of May everyday from 8. 00 to 16. 30 except Saturdays and Sundays. -After visiting the school we are going to the historical centre of Spilimbergo, we'll be walking along the main street from one tower gate to the other, enjoying the beautiful architecture, the spectacular view from the Town Hall, the magnificent cathedral dating back to the 13th century and the castle. Of course there will be time for a stop at one of the local osterie for a taste of local products. There's no railway station in Spilimbergo but I can pick you up at Pordenone or Udine station that can be easily reached from Venice or Trieste.
