MAURA B. Foligno, Umbria, Italy "Wherever you go, go with all your heart". (Confucius) I was born and raised in Umbria and, in my twenties, like so many young people, I packed my bag and traveled the world. I spent time in Paris, Istanbul, Madrid - in fact all the major European capitals and also spent several months travelling throughout the USA. On my return I began teaching Italian at the Università degli Stranieri di Perugia, then quickly realized that I wanted to share not just my language but also my passion for my heritage that is the natural beauty and the art of my land. I studied Art History and gained my Umbria Tour Guide's License 24 years ago and have never looked back. Umbria is a land of treasures! It is home to some of the most incredible pieces of artwork in the world. At the end of a working day I always feel a sense of gratitude and pride for the unforgettable experiences which I have been able to share with my guests… These might include a day of walking the cobbled streets of magnificent hamlets such as Spello or the feeling of being almost overwhelmed by the famous and revolutionary frescoes painted by Giotto in the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi; we might have finished the day by savoring a glass of Sagrantino together while admiring the breathtaking view of the gentle countryside. The choice of authentic cultural experiences which we can share is almost limitless. I look forward to giving you a unique gift from my Umbria. It's a gift which cannot be lost and I hope will continue to give you the sense of an invisible link back here to my home forever. Towards the end of the day, when churches are closing and the streets are becoming empty but it's not yet time to make your way to the restaurant, what better way to pass a couple of hours than to join me on my "Twilight Assisi" tour? You might already think that Assisi is one of the prettiest towns you have ever experienced but when you see it, softly lit by the ancient street lights, you will appreciate another level of its beauty and charm. The two twilight hours spent with me will be a truly 'made to measure' experience. The view from the Fortress at the very top of the town under a starry sky is absolutely magical! We can seek out some of the exquisite, hidden, little gems in the center of this inspiring town. It is never possible, in a daytime tour, to focus on such beautiful details but in our two hours together you will have had the privilege of experiencing some of the tiniest gems which often leave as lasting an effect as the broadest of panoramas.
-We will be wandering in the Upper Town to explore the evocative area all around the remains of the Roman Amphitheater. - It will be nice to have a walk up to the impressive Medieval Fortress from where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the lovely town below with the Piazza del Comune. -At the Basilica of St. Clare we will take a special moment to sense the spirit and the calmness of the town when the sun goes down. . . -It will be awesome to go back to St. Francis Basilica at moonlight and breathe the mystic atmosphere which pervades the stunning architecture where poor Francis' remains are jealously preserved.
