Meet Tia, Your Local Guide in Yunnan I was born and raised in Kunming, and Yunnan runs through my blood, quite literally. My grandfather was the first translator in Yunnan province, a pioneer at a time when few could bridge the gap between this extraordinary corner of China and the outside world. Both my parents spent their entire careers in tourism. Growing up in that environment, a love for sharing this place with travelers wasn't something I chose, it was something I inherited. I got my national tour guide license at 18, went on to study Tourism Management at university in Beijing, and spent years guiding visitors from all over the world there. Then came a decade living in Europe, which gave me something just as valuable as my education: a deep understanding of how international travelers think, what they're really looking for, and what makes an experience feel truly memorable rather than merely ticked off a list. A few years ago, I came home to Kunming. And I've never been happier. Now I guide here because I genuinely love it, the food, the landscapes, the 26 ethnic minority cultures, the stories behind every alleyway and mountain pass. I'll show you a Yunnan that most visitors never get to see. My style is warm and relaxed, but I love sharing the history and culture behind what we see, and I'm always open to a spontaneous detour if something interesting catches our eye. I take you to where locals eat, where locals gather, and how locals really live, because that's the only way I know how to show someone my home. Whether you're here for two days or two weeks, my goal is simple: for you to leave feeling of having truly been somewhere, of having had a conversation with a local vendor, shared a meal that surprised you, or stumbled down a lane that wasn't on any map. That sense of real connection with a place is what I care most about giving you, and it's something that stays with you long after you've left Yunnan.

Daguan Park sits at the northern edge of Dianchi Lake — Kunming's great lake — and marks the start of one of the city's most loved outdoor routes. The park traces its origins to 1682 and at its heart stands Daguan Tower — one of the four great historic towers of China. On this leisurely 3-hour walk we stroll through the park, where locals fish by the water, practise tai chi on the paths, and gather in the pavilions the way Kunming people always have. Then we follow the greenway south — a smooth, flat path winding through the wetlands along the lakeshore, with open water on one side and reed beds and birdlife on the other. The Western Hills sit across the water in the distance. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels. A walking tour — comfortable shoes recommended.
• Meet up at Daguan Park entrance • Daguan Tower — The centrepiece of the park and one of the four great historic towers of China. We take in the famous 180-character long couplet carved into its gateposts — acclaimed as the longest and finest of its kind in the world. • Daguan Park stroll — We walk at an easy pace through the park's gardens, ponds and pavilions, watching the city unwind around us • Into the wetlands — We follow the greenway south as the park gives way to the wetland area along the Dianchi shoreline — this is the part of the walk locals love most. • Lakeside viewpoint — A final pause at the water's edge before heading back. One of Kunming's most quietly beautiful views, and almost entirely off the tourist radar.
