Explore Zapallar, one of Chile’s most refined coastal retreats, where forested hills, dramatic cliffs, elegant seaside homes, and the Pacific Ocean shape a landscape of rare beauty. The day includes scenic promenades, Playa Zapallar, ocean viewpoints, and the quiet charm of this exclusive town in the northern Valparaíso Region. Weather and ocean conditions permitting, an optional early-morning boat ride with local fishermen can be arranged at an additional cost. This one-hour navigation offers the chance to observe Humboldt penguins around Cachagua Island, a protected nesting and resting habitat influenced by the nutrient-rich Humboldt Current. The island is not disembarked, as it is a fragile ecosystem. Penguin activity is seasonal: sightings are usually stronger from September onward, while current-season observations may be more limited, often around 20–30 penguins. Compare with the season with hundreds of them
Depart from your Santiago hotel before 8:00 AM and travel north for approximately 2.5 hours towards the northern coast of the Valparaíso Region — not Valparaíso city. Upon arrival at the fishermen’s cove in Zapallar, you may relax by the beach, walk along the scenic coastal promenade, or walk up Cerro La Cruz for beautiful ocean views. Weather and sea conditions permitting, you can also take an optional one-hour boat ride with a local fisherman to observe Humboldt penguins around Cachagua Island. The island is a fragile protected ecosystem, so we do not disembark; penguins are viewed from the boat. Binoculars are recommended. The boat cost is approximately USD 250 per boat per person for a maximum of 5. After returning to the cove, enjoy lunch at a seaside restaurant such as Chiringuito, with fresh seafood, local dishes, Pacific-Mediterranean flavours, and Chilean wines. After lunch, return to Santiago, arriving later in the afternoon after a memorable coastal day.

Private transportation will be arranged according to the final group size to ensure comfort, flexibility, and a smooth journey. For 2–3 guests, we can travel in my comfortable SUV. For 4 or more guests, I can arrange a premium van with a professional driver, allowing everyone to travel comfortably with more space. The vehicles are generally modern, well-maintained, and selected to provide a relaxed experience throughout the day, with the convenience of flexible stops, scenic viewpoints, and an easy return to Santiago.
Santiago, Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile
I’ll meet you in the lobby of the hotel a few minutes before 8:00 AM. An early departure is important, as the earlier we reach Zapallar, the better our chances of calm sea conditions for the optional boat ride to the penguin island. Please bring warm wind/waterproof jackets, something to protect your phones/cameras, charged cameras, and binoculars if you have them. The boat ride is not included and must be paid in cash on the day. Lunch is also not included, but there are excellent local seaside options.
