Hello and welcome to Cambodia! My name is So what, and I am a licensed local expert and professional translator with over 15 years of experience sharing the rich history, vibrant culture, and hidden treasures of Phnom Penh. My deep understanding of my country was not learned from a book—it is rooted in my own life story. I was born in a refugee camp during a time of great transition for our country, which gives me a unique, deeply personal perspective on Cambodia's journey, resilience, and spirit. My passion is going beyond the standard tourist paths to give you an authentic, intimate look at Cambodian life. Because of my background in translation, booking a tour with me means breaking down all language barriers. As your local expert, I love helping my guests seamlessly connect and chat with local market vendors, artisans, and everyday residents, turning a simple sightseeing trip into a deeply personal cultural exchange. Whether we are exploring the majestic architecture of the Royal Palace, reflecting on our poignant history with true empathy, navigating the lively aisles of local markets, or cruising down the Mekong River at sunset, your comfort, safety, and insight are my top priorities. Let’s create unforgettable memories together in Phnom Penh!

Overview of your Phnom Penh tour

“I was born in a refugee camp during Cambodia’s civil war. Sharing this history with travelers is not just my job—it is part of my life.” During this tour, I share Cambodia’s recent history not only from the books but from my own experience. I was born in a refugee camp during the civil war, and my story brings a personal perspective to the Genocide Museum and Killing Fields. Guests gain a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s resilience, the human cost of conflict, and the hope that followed, guided with compassion and respect.

The tour was very interesting as Sowath had personal experience of the aftermath of the atrocities and was also able to provide information from his mother’s perspective. Sowath has a good grasp of English and was easy to understand The vehicle used to transport us was of a very high standard and the driver supplied cold towels and copious amounts of water. The driver was very pleasant and courteous.

Our guide, Sobath or Bo, was an excellent guide. He had deep personal ties to not only Cambodia, but to most of the southeast Asia region. He was well studied in the history, both contemporary and ancient, of the region. The tour was exceptionally comfortable and informative.

Sowath was the best tour guide that I've ever had. The tour was about much more than just the locations, it was about Cambodia and its past, present and future. He gave us context for what we were viewing and masterfully entwined his personal story into the narrative. He was simply outstanding.
